An All Hallow's Eve dish. Traditionally a carefully wrapped gold ring is placed in one of the bowls and the diner who finds it will most likely wed the following year

Ingredients
  • 1 lb cabbage, cored, quartered and shredded
  • 1 lbs boiling potatoes, peeled and cut into 2 " pieces
  • 2 small leeks, white and pale green part only,washed and sliced
  • 1 Cup milk
  • salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground mace
  • 8 Tbl (1 stick) plus 2 Tbl butter

Directions
  1. In separate saucepans cook cabbage and potatoes in boiling, salted water until tender. About 12-15 minutes
  2. Drain and chop cabbage
  3. Drain and mash potatoes
  4. Meanwhile in a large saucepan, combine leeks and milk and cook over medium until leeks are tender about 8 to 10 minutes
  5. Add the potatoes, salt, pepper and mace to the leeks and milk and stir over low heat until well blended
  6. Add the cabbage and 8 Tbl of butter and sitr again to consistency of mashed potatoes, dot with remaining butter cut into small pieces and serve at once

Funny you mentioned that tradition I presented my wife with her engagement ring on Halloween. I placed it inside a carved out small pumpkin with a tea light inside.


Made this for dinner last night and I will definately make it again! It was delicious!!
