Elixer of Life Soup

- 4 pounds chicken pieces shopping list
- 3 carrots, peeled and sliced shopping list
- 2 stalks celery, sliced shopping list
- 1 large onion, chopped shopping list
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped shopping list
- 1 bay leaf shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme shopping list
- 1 cup chicken stock shopping list
- 1 (14 1/2 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, undrained shopping list
- 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce, or to taste shopping list
- 2 cups potatoes, peeled and diced shopping list
- 3 cups green cabbage, shredded shopping list
How to make it
- In large stockpot, combine chicken pieces, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, bay leaf and thyme.
- Add just enough water to cover.
- Stir in chicken broth, stewed tomatoes and hot pepper sauce.
- Bring almost to a boil, skimming off any foam that develops.
- Reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes.
- Add potatoes and continue to simmer 15 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
- Remove chicken pieces from stock pot and cool 10 minutes.
- Remove skin and bones from chicken and return meat to stockpot.
- Add cabbage and simmer 8 to 10 minutes.

Sounds exactly how I make my Chicken Soup, just don't add the thyme. I use parsley flakes. Great post.
