Ingredients
  • Liquid Mixture:
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup Dutch Gold Buckwheat Honey
  • Note: Sometimes I like to add 1/2 cup of Fancy Molasses to this recipe, You can always use 1 cup Fancy Molasses to replace the Honey or a friend of mine uses Corn Syrup.
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Flour
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • Crumbs:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 - 8" unbaked pie shells

Directions
  1. Mix crumb mixture first and set aside.
  2. Combine liquid mixture and pour into prepared pie shells.
  3. Spoon crumbs on top.
  4. Immediately put into oven.
  5. Bake at 325°F for 40-50 minutes or until set.

I love my honey! but for me shoofly pie is what I make when my body is craving molasses :) I will have to try this out though just to see as I'm intrigued.


I LOVE Shoo Fly Pie! This is one of my favourites since moving to the south and enjoying southern cuisine. It's a 5 from me.


This looks like my grandmother's pie. Thanks for the picture! I do know she used Brier rabbit Molasses and I have never seen buckwheat honey where I live. I am going to try this with molasses and THEN when that taste is satisfied I will try it with Orange Blossom Honey ( I AM a Floridian, after all ! :)
