Make an all-natural homemade vanilla extract.

Ingredients
- 3 or more vanilla bean pods, halved
- 2 cups vodka or light rum
Directions
- Choose a clean glass container with a stopper. I save clear glass wine bottles with screw tops that have a distinctive shape and run them through the dishwasher.
- Put the beans in the bottle and pour in enough vodka or rum to cover the beans.
- Cover securely and set aside for about 2 weeks, shaking occasionally. When the liquid is dark brown and fragrant, it's ready to use.

I was wondering, do you cut the vanilla in half crosswise or lengthwise?
