These beef patties are made extra special, topped with the red wine sauce. Good served with Green beans, tomato salad, and warm crusty bread or rolls.

Ingredients
  • 1 slice French bread
  • Water
  • 1 1/4 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Dash pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 2 tablespoons grated Romano cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • ------Red Wine Sauce--------
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions, white parts only
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/3 cup dry red wine
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • alt and pepper to taste

Directions
  1. Soak bread in water until soft. Squeeze dry.
  2. Mix bread, ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, alt, pepper, oregano, cheese and parsley. Blend well.
  3. Shape mixture into 4 thick patties.
  4. Heat oil in large skillet.
  5. Add patties. Cook about 5minutes on each side for medium. Remove to platter. Keep warm.
  6. Add green onions to pan drippings. Saute briefly. Add mushrooms. Saute for a few minutes.
  7. Add red wine to pan. Stir up brown bits from bottom of pan. Stir in broth.
  8. Combine flour and water. Add to pan. Cook and stir until smooth and thickened. Season to taste.
  9. Spoon sauce over meat patties and serve.
