How to make it

  • Soak bread in water until soft. Squeeze dry.
  • Mix bread, ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, alt, pepper, oregano, cheese and parsley. Blend well.
  • Shape mixture into 4 thick patties.
  • Heat oil in large skillet.
  • Add patties. Cook about 5minutes on each side for medium. Remove to platter. Keep warm.
  • Add green onions to pan drippings. Saute briefly. Add mushrooms. Saute for a few minutes.
  • Add red wine to pan. Stir up brown bits from bottom of pan. Stir in broth.
  • Combine flour and water. Add to pan. Cook and stir until smooth and thickened. Season to taste.
  • Spoon sauce over meat patties and serve.
