Southern Fried Chicken

- 2 quarts buttermilk shopping list
- 4 eggs shopping list
- 1/3 cup water shopping list
- 1 cup hot red pepper sauce shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- ¼ - ½ t baking powder shopping list
- 1 teaspoon pepper shopping list
- salt & pepper shopping list
- garlic powder shopping list
- 2 1/2-pound chicken, cut into pieces shopping list
- oil, for frying, preferably peanut oil shopping list
How to make it
- Marinate the chicken pieces overnight in the buttermilk.
- In a medium size bowl, beat the eggs with the water. Add Tabasco sauce to taste. In another bowl, combine the flour and pepper. Season the chicken with the salt, pepper, and garlic. Dip the seasoned chicken in the egg, and then coat well in the flour mixture.
- Heat the oil to 350 degrees deep pot. Do not fill the pot more than 1/2 full with oil.
- Fry the chicken in the oil until brown and crisp. Dark meat takes about 13 to 14 minutes, white meat around 8 to 10 minutes.
