Shame on me for sharing this recipe - I had to beg to get him to give it to me! This is the salad Uncle Steve is sick of bringing to parties (but has to because everyone requests it).

Ingredients
  • 1 lg or 2 small heads romaine lettuce
  • 1 lg clove garlic, cut in half
  • 1 anchovy
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp tabasco sauce
  • 2 T wine vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 heaping tsp dijon mustard
  • 1 c coarsely grated romano or parmesan
  • 2 c croutons

Directions
  1. Rub a large (pref wooden) salad bowl with the garlic clove's cut side
  2. Wash lettuce, dry well and tear into pieces into the bowl
  3. In a separate, small bowl, mash or chop anchovy
  4. Add lemon juice, Worcestershire, tabasco, wine vinegar, egg, olive oil, and mustard.
  5. Whisk well, pour on lettuce and toss
  6. Add cheese and croutons and toss again
  7. Serve immediately
  8. It's fun to do this at the table, tossing after each addition to the salad. Also, make sure the egg is fresh and has no crack where bacteria could get in. If you want, boil it for 1-2 minutes to be safe.
