The following recipe was transcribed ver batim from Peterson's Magazine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania February, 1859

Ingredients
  • Ormskirk Gingerbread
  • ---------------------------
  • Two pounds flour,
  • one pound butter,
  • one-half pound sifted oatmeal,
  • three-quarters of a pound of moist sugar, one ounce ginger,
  • the same of citrus and candied orange peel,
  • all mixed together; then add one pound of treacle*.

Directions
  1. The whole should be mixed the day before it is intended to be baked.
  2. --------------
  3. In a regular gingerbread pan floured and larded this took 35 minutes in a 350 degree oven. It made 2 pans.
