Macs Pub Brown Soda Bread

- 1 C flour shopping list
- 3 C coarse whole wheat flour shopping list
- 1 Tbl wheat germ shopping list
- 1 Tbl oat bran shopping list
- 1 Tbl brown sugar shopping list
- 2 tsp baking soda shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
- 4 Tbl unsalted butter, melted, Kerrygold if you have it shopping list
- 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 C buttermilk shopping list
- 2 Tbl sesame seeds(optional) shopping list
How to make it
- 375 oven Greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan
- In a large bowl stir together the dry ingredients
- Make a well in the center
- With a wooden spoon stir in the egg, melted butter and 3/4 C of the buttermilk
- Mix well and gradually add enough remaining buttermilk to form a soft dough
- Spoon the dough into the prepared pan.
- Smooth the top with a spatula that has been dipped in water or buttermilk and sprinkle with the sesame seeds, if using.
- Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until tester inserted in center comes out clean and the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom
- Remove from oven and let cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
- Turn bread out onto the rack and let cool, right side up, for about an hour to make slicing easier.
