Ingredients
  • 2 cups cooked ham cubed
  • 1 large stalk of celery chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. onion chopped
  • 1 large dill pickle chopped
  • 1 large sweet pickle chopped
  • 1 tsp. dill pickle juice
  • 1 tsp. sweet pickle juice
  • 1/2 cup miracle whip type salad dressing

Directions
  1. Place first 5 ingredients in a food processor and pulse to a fine chop(ingredients should still be recognizable).
  2. Mix salad dressing and juices to the ham mixture.
  3. Add more salad dressing to your liking
  4. Chill for at least an hour and serve!
  5. I don't have a food processor so I buy ground ham and just take the time to mince the other ingredients. It takes more work but for me it's worth it!!!
  6. I like to eat mine on Melba toasts or bagel chips. But the recipe calls for it to be sereved on toast. Personally all I need is a spoon LOL

Yes, this is the same ham salad I grew up with (did your friend's mom grow up in MN??!), but in MN we used a bologna called Sweigerts...can't get that where we live now, so ham is the meat of choice. And while I always prefer mayo in most things, salad dressing is key for this because of the sweet flavor. This is GOOD stuff, and if you've never had it, you really should try it - I'm betting you'll be "hooked" once you do! It may sound odd at first glance, but like Imhungry said, you'll LOVE it!!

Some deli's do use bologna maybe next week when I make it I'll try using bologna(maybe garlic bologna?)and let you know how it works!!

This is how I make mine....Love it!

Good budget friendly kid friendly food. Thanks.

Everything is better with Miracle Whip! LOL Yummy recipe. There was a lady in my neighborhood years ago who used to use the leftover hot dogs from the previous days grilling to make something like this.

I had a schweigerts hotdog last night. Now I'm going to get some bolony and try this. Thanks for the recipe I'm. L

Funny, I was thinking about ham salad and passed by the meat counter in the grocery store and noticed packages of tiny cubed ham! I may have to get some and try this recipe....I even have a small jar of Miracle Whip (unopened) in the fridge! LOL! Thanks!

I have always love ham spread, got to try this.Just maybe it"s the sweet and dill juice, Hope it works!
