How to make it

  • Original Recipe - Meatless

  • Using bacon grease or butter:
  • Fry cabbage and onions in bacon grease or butter for about 5 - 10 minutes or so
  • Season to taste
  • Turn heat down and cover
  • Cook until cabbage is tender enough to your liking
  • Stir in noodles during last 5 - 10 minutes of cooking

  • Mama's Recipe
  • Fry bacon, ground beef, or kielbasa
  • Drain grease
  • Add butter (unless you're using bacon then just use the grease), cabbage, and onions
  • Fry for about 5 - 10 minutes
  • Season to taste
  • Turn heat down and cover
  • Cook until cabbage is tender enough to your liking
  • Stir in noodles during last 5 - 10 minutes of cooking


  • ~Optional~
  • If you like, after you've cooked the halushki you can stir in a couple of Tbsp of butter for taste.
