Lunch Counter Macaroni and Cheese

- 2 cups macaroni shopping list
- 1 stick butter shopping list
- 6 Tbsp flour shopping list
- 4 cups hot milk shopping list
- 1 tsp salt or to taste shopping list
- 1/2 tsp white pepper or to taste shopping list
- 8 oz sharp or Old English cheese, grated shopping list
- paprika (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Cook macaroni according to packages directions. While you are waiting for the macaroni, make the white sauce as follows:
- Melt butter in a heavy saucepan.
- Blend in flour and heat well.
- Add milk and cook until thick.
- Add salt and pepper.
- When macaroni is done and drained, combine it with the sauce and 6 ounces of the cheese, in a greased 13x9 baking dish.
- Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top.
- Sprinkle with paprika if desired.
