Grits are small broken grains of corn. They were first produced by Native Americans centuries ago. They made both "corn" grits and "hominy" grits.

Hey jett! You know when you take a break from desserts, you come up with some real gems - like this one! I can't say I've ever had grits but it sounds a lot like polenta to me and that, I've eaten tons of lol Great post, if this is anything like polenta, I'm gonna LOVE it. Say thanks to your daddy for me ;)

I'm in and you get 15 forks from me. Well...okay...five's the limit. But you got mine.

I actually was making grits (yummm) once upon a time and didn't have block cheese, grated cheese or Velveeta. However, I did have a partial jar of chili con queso - which in itself was quite the shocker, because we never have any leftovers. (Envision people trying to stick their hands and heads into a wee jar just to get that last drop ... scary... and yet pretty funny, too).

Anyway....after increduously staring at the leftover dip for several moments, I took my handy-dandy spatula and added it to my grits (yummm) and it came out great. So good - that I decided to keep an extra jar of dip on hand just for grits. Silly me...because it never makes it to the grits. But it's fun to keep buying it and the company making it has most likely constructed a consumer shrine to me and my friends. *bows*

Great post...thanks so much, dear Jett! *giggles* Have a super Saturday! ~ Vickie
