How to make it

  • Heat butter in the pan you will cook the rice in
  • When butter is sizzling add the vermicelli and fry until dark golden brown (stir continuously so it won't stick)
  • Turn down the heat, pour in the rinsed rice (it's going to splatter a bit, so take care!) and add cold water to 1/2 inch above the top of the rice
  • Add salt and stir to mix rice and vermicelli
  • Turn up the heat, bring to a bowl, then turn down to a low simmer
  • Cover and cook for 14 minutes

    Sounds good to me. Will use broth in place of water and throw in garlic (natch). I love rice and pasta with garlic! Thank you.
