Southern Fried Okra Recipe
This is the Southern way to fry okra. Choose okra that in't dry, it should have some moisture in it. This is Southern popcorn.

Ingredients
  • Okra, sliced across (one cup sliced is about one serving)
  • Salt
  • Black Pepper
  • cornmeal
  • Vegetable Oil for frying

Directions
  1. Slice okra across
  2. Pour oil about 1/2 inch in skillet, cast iron works great
  3. Season cornmeal with salt and pepper, place in bowl or paper bag
  4. Place okra in cornmeal and shake bag or coat completely if using a bowl
  5. Heat oil to medium high and place one layer of okra in skillet. Fry until golden brown
  6. Remove with slotted utensil and drain on paper towls immediately.
  7. Note: When okra is out of season, you can use frozen, but keep frozen, do not thaw. Drop frozen and coated into hot oil.

Thanks for the tip on frying the frozen okra...gonna have to try some soon...IF I can find it up here! =)


Fried Okra is one of my favorite foods on earth ! My first hubby used to bring me home a big bag of frozen breaded okra as a treat...instead of candy or flowers ! lol !


Never tried it this way before can't wait to give it a go
