Ingredients

How to make it

  • Cook the bacon until almost crispy.
  • Drain drippings.
  • Pat with paper towel.
  • Cut eachslice in half and set aside.
  • In a heavy sauce pan, add sugar and water.
  • Stir until smooth.
  • Cook at medium-high heat until sugar is lightly brown (light carmel stage) . If using brown sugar this stage is harder to see...
  • Remove from heat.
  • Place bacon on wax paper.
  • Using tongs, dip each slice into caramel and place on wax paper until hardened.

  • I have found that if I am just making these for bacon bits that I can use that box of bacon ends and pieces from the store, add some pepper if you want and do the same thing that way. Also I must admit to doing the double dip in the syrup. I wait until the bacon dries and then dip them one more time....What can I say! I love sweet and salty. I also prefer the brown sugar, but its really just a matter of taste.

I've had the baked, brown sugared bacon, but never tried dipping it in a caramel syrup - fantastic idea for salads (or I would just plain gobble it up...love sweet and salty) - thanks for the unique recipe!

This is absolutely crazy! Is this an original recipe? I could see using this as a topping for a spinach salad with mandarin orange slices, pecans and thinly sliced red onion. You've blown my mind.
