Boston Cream Pie

- Preheat oven to 350F. shopping list

- 1 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/3 cup shortening shopping list

- 1 tsp vanilla shopping list
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 3/4 cup milk shopping list
- Grease and flour 9-inch round cake pan. shopping list
- Beat together granulated sugar and shortening in large bowl until light and fluffy. shopping list
- Blend in egg and vanilla. shopping list
- Combine flour, baking powder and salt in small bowl. shopping list
- Add flour mixture to sugar mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. shopping list
- Pour into prepared pan. shopping list
- Bake 35 minutes or until wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. shopping list
- Cool in pan 10 minutes. shopping list
- After cake has cooled loosen edge of cake and remove to rack to cool completely. shopping list
- Cream Filling: shopping list
- In 2 quart saucepan combine : shopping list
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar, shopping list
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch shopping list
- 1/4 tsp salt shopping list
- Gradually stir in 1 1/2 cups milk. shopping list
- Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. shopping list
- Boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. shopping list
- Gradually stir small amount of hot mixture into 2 slightly beaten egg yolks; mix thoroughly. shopping list
- Return to hot mixture in pan. shopping list
- Bring to a boil; boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. shopping list
- Do not overcook. shopping list
- Remove from heat; stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla. shopping list
- Cool to room temperature. shopping list
- Chill. shopping list
- chocolate Glaze: shopping list
- In medium saucepan combine: shopping list
- 2 (1-ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate shopping list
- 3 Tbsp butter shopping list
- Stir over low heat until melted. shopping list
- Remove from heat;. shopping list
- Stir in 1 cup sifted powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla. shopping list
- Stir in 3 to 5 tsp water, 1 tsp at a time, until glaze is of desired consistency. shopping list
- Cool slightly. shopping list
How to make it
- To assemble cake:
- When cake is cool, split in half horizontally to make 2 thin layers.
- Spoon cream filling over bottom half of cake.
- Cover with top half.
- Spread top with chocolate glaze and let it drizzle down the sides.
- Cool.
- Serve when glaze is completely set, or refrigerate.until ready to serve.
- Refrigerate to store left-over cake.
