Almost Wendys Chili-good Stuff
From thegoldminer 17 years agoIngredients
- • 2 pounds ground beef shopping list
- • 1 can (29 ounce size) tomato sauce shopping list
- • 5 cans (15 ounce size) kidney beans w/liquid shopping list
- • 1 can (29 ounce size) pinto beans w/liquid shopping list
- • 1 medium onion, diced shopping list
- • 2 green chili, diced ( I used I can of diced chiles) shopping list
- • 1 Rib celery, diced shopping list
- • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped (No salt tomatoes in the can work well if totally ripe tomatoes are not in season.) shopping list
- • I added 1 can and the 3 tomatoes shopping list
- • 2 teaspoons cumin powder shopping list
- • 3 tablespoons chili powder shopping list
- • 1 tablespoon granulated garlic shopping list
- • 1 1/2 teaspoon black pepper shopping list
- • 2 teaspoons salt (I did not add salt. These is so much in the beans, add some to the bowl if you need it.) shopping list
- • 2 cups water (I did not add any water, the liquid from the cans was sufficient and took a while to boil down.) shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Brown the beef and drain the fat off.
- 2. Crumble the cooked beef into pea size pieces.
- 3. In a large pot, combine the beef plus the remaining ingredients and bring to a simmer over low heat.
- 4. Cook stirring every 15 minutes for 5 hours. The recipe called for 2-3 but going 5 hours reduces the liquid and it thickened just right.
- 5. I like kidney beans in my chili so I added 3 cans to the one large can called for in the recipe.
- 6. The heat level is individual and some may want more heat, add to the bowl.
- 7. This was just good stuff, looked and tasted like what I thought chili should be. Enjoy, JJ.
