How to make it

  • 1. Brown the beef and drain the fat off.
  • 2. Crumble the cooked beef into pea size pieces.
  • 3. In a large pot, combine the beef plus the remaining ingredients and bring to a simmer over low heat.
  • 4. Cook stirring every 15 minutes for 5 hours. The recipe called for 2-3 but going 5 hours reduces the liquid and it thickened just right.
  • 5. I like kidney beans in my chili so I added 3 cans to the one large can called for in the recipe.
  • 6. The heat level is individual and some may want more heat, add to the bowl.
  • 7. This was just good stuff, looked and tasted like what I thought chili should be. Enjoy, JJ.

    Expecting snow tomorrow night to Sunday morning. Making this for sure tomorrow - that way if we lose power, I can reheat it on my propane burner! Thanks for an excellent sounding recipe.

    Good grub. Added one star of anise. A nice non-hot chili. Sharp cheddar on top tops it off.
