Rutabaga is a root vegetable similar to the turnip. I never had these until Daddy fixed them and they are so good! Don't knock 'em until you try 'em!

Ingredients
  • 2 large rutabagas that have been peeled, cut into 2" cubes(The smaller you cut them, the faster they cook)
  • 5 or 6 smoked turkey necks
  • olive oil
  • seasoned salt
  • pepper

Directions
  1. Place rutabagas in water in a large boiler pot/pan that has a lid.
  2. Put the smoked turkey necks with about 3 tablespoons olive oil.
  3. Only enough water to cover the rutabagas and turkey necks
  4. Cook on low/med heat for about 2 hours ...or until rutabagas are tender.
  5. Season with a little seasoned salt & pepper.

'Down-Home' recipe file!!!

Ah, I love these... we call them 'neeps' in Scotland (their Sunday name is swede) and we eat them mashed, with 'champit tatties' (mashed potatoes) and HAGGIS!!!!
