Ingredients
  • 1 pound beef rib-eye or lean flank steak
  • Hot Basil and Chilli Sauce (see below)
  • 1 ounce Crispy Fried Basil Leaves (see note) to serve
  • Marinade:
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Hot Basil and Chilli Sauce:
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 red chillies, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 10 basil leaves

Directions
  1. First make the Marinade by combining the soy sauce, fish sauce, sugar and black pepper in a bowl.
  2. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Pour the Marinade over the beef and marinate for about 1 hour.
  4. Grill the beef on a charcoal or pan grill until browned on the outside but still pink and moist on the inside.
  5. This should take 5 to 10 minutes.
  6. Set aside to cool.
  7. Cut the beef into thin slices and place on a serving platter.
  8. Pour the Hot Basil and Chilli Sauce over and serve with Crispy Fried Basil Leaves
  9. CRISPY FRIED BASIL : To make the Crispy Fried Basil Leaves, stir-fry 8 to 10 thinly sliced or whole basil leaves in several tablespoons of hot oil over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until crispy and fragrant.
  10. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil on paper towels.

Can't wait to try it! I'm just gonna go out and pick me some basil and fry it up, too!

Love this recipe thanks

Yum this sounds great! Nice variation of steak. . .

That chili sauce sounds amazing! and versatile, have you used it on other meats?

The flavor was awesome! I did double all the sauce elements as we like plenty of sauce! It was raining so I couldn't grill but just pan sauteed the beef. Also I could not seem to get my basil fried right. I used Thai basil so maybe that's why? I don't know, but it would just pop real loud and burn as soon as it hit the oil...maybe the oil was too hot? Regardless I just chopped the Thai basil up and added it to the sauce and it was soooo good! Thanks for a great recipe, Greekgirrrl!
