How to make it

  • Preheat oven 350*
  • Grease and flour bottom only of 8" square pan or line with parchment paper. Set aside
  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
  • Add egg and vanilla and beat well
  • Sift together in a bowl all dry ingredients.
  • Starting with dry and ending with dry add alternately with buttermilk to batter beating well after each addition.
  • Last addition beat 2 minutes.
  • Pour into prepared pan bake 25-30 minutes until top springs back when lightly pressed and toothpick comes out clean when inserted in center.
  • remove from pan cool on a wire rack.
  • When completely cool cut cake in half frost bottom stack and frost as usual top and sides. Makes OneSmall rectangle cake just the perfect size.
  • To Make frosting
  • Melt chocolate over low heat or in double boiler over boiling water .
  • Beat butter until creamy gradually add half of the icing sugar beating after each addition on low.
  • Add chocolate and vanilla mix well.
  • Add remaining sugar alternately with the half and half, beating well until light and fluffy.
  • Makes about 2 1/2 cups
