OVER THE TOP CHOCOLATE CAKE This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Boone Estate in Midlothian, Texas in 1992.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 6 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Directions
  1. Combine flour, sugar and salt in large mixing bowl.
  2. Combine butter, water, oil and cocoa in saucepan then bring to boil stirring constantly.
  3. Pour over flour mixture then mix in buttermilk, soda, eggs and vanilla.
  4. Pour into large greased jelly roll pan and bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
  5. Prepare icing by placing butter, cocoa and milk in saucepan and heat until hot.
  6. Do not boil then add remaining ingredients then pour over warm cake and serve.
