How to make it

  • Stir together sugar, flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda and salt.
  • Combine butter, water and cocoa in saucepan.
  • Bring mixture to a boil stirring constantly then remove from heat and pour into flour mixture.
  • Mix well using wooden spoon then blend in eggs and sour cream mixing well.
  • Pour batter into greased rectangular baking pan and bake at 375 for 30 minutes.
  • Cool in pan on rack while you prepare frosting.
  • Pierce several holes in cake with fork while still warm.
  • Combine butter, milk and cocoa then cook over medium heat until butter is melted.
  • Stir in powdered sugar that has been sifted twice then continue to cook until sugar dissolves.
  • Remove from heat then stir in vanilla and frost cake immediately.
