Ingredients

How to make it

  • Prep time is just a guestimate, since each bread machine takes it's own time to make just the dough - mine takes 1 hr, 20minutes.
  • My bread machine requires the yeast to be added last, if your requires the yeast to added first, then do it in that order then add the flour and lastly the 'wet' ingredients.
  • *********************************************
  • This bread has a chewy crust and a spongy center which bounces back when squeezed - just like charmin tp. The bread is not dense, but full of flavor.
  • Select the dough cycle on your bread machine.
  • Add warm water, then add honey, olive oil, salt.
  • In separate bowl, measure out flour and add lavender, mix till combined.
  • Add flour with the lavender, then make small well, and add yeast.
  • Turn on bread machine.
  • Be ready once bread machine has finished its dough cycle, turn out dough onto floured surface.
  • Let sit for ten minutes, knead for five minutes then shape into ball and place into greased bowl. Gently grease top of dough ball with additional olive oil.
  • Cover with clean tea towel and let rise until doubled in size in a warm spot on your kitchen.
  • Depending upon temperature in your kitchen, this can take anywhere from 25 minutes to 2 hours.
  • I have gone shopping, do the laundry whatever, Multi-task my foodies, multi-task!
  • If you have a gas stove, you can 'cheat' and place the bowl with the dough in your oven and let it rise there, it will rise more quickly.
  • Once doubled, punch bread and knead two minutes. Stretch or roll out dough slightly to form a rectangle, then roll up into a log.
  • Place bread dough on the diagonal onto parchment paper on the cookie sheet, making sure to tuck ends under and that the bread rolled up has its seam underneath.
  • Put back into oven or in a warm spot in your kitchen to let double in size.
  • Preheat your oven 375 degrees.
  • Place bread into oven to bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Bread is done when it sounds hollow when knocked on.
  • Let cool before slicing. Enjoy with jam, butter and/or with honey.
  • I had some this morning, toasted and served it up with butter and raspberry jam - delicious!

This bread was delicious! Thank you! Next time I would use less lavender though, 1/4 cup would be plenty. I also added a pinch of rosemary. I tried it fresh last night drizzled with olive oil and honey, this morning I had it toasted with Bonne Maman raspberry jam. This bread would also be great for dipping in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Oh and the crust tastes like biscotti… Paired with an espresso… Divine! I shall definitely be making this again!

This looks marvelous; however, what type of lavender are we using here? I came upon this site while looking for ways to use up some lavender in my garden....would I use that for this bread? Could someone please advise. Also...I do not have a bread machine....can you still make it without the machine? I would think so but it would probably be harder since alot of kneading would be involved, right? Thank you. Beverly

I cannot wait to make this bread. Even if it only was to make the kitchen smell beatiful. However I will rise and shine if I know I will have a slice of this toasted with my fig preserves for breakfast. Thank you for a creative post.
