Old Fashioned Front Porch Lemonade Recipe

Old Fashioned Front Porch Lemonade Recipe
My mother used to make this back in the ‘70s…we didn’t have air-conditioning to cool us off, and a big tall glass of this, poured over a mountain of ice was a sure-cure for the heat. It’s so easy to buy the prepared stuff now, but for someth... More

Ingredients
  • 1½ white sugar
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 1½ cups fresh squeezed lemon juice (about 8 to 10 lemons, depending on size and juiciness)
  • 4½ cups ice cold water
  • lemon slices
  • orange slices
  • lots of ice cubes

Directions
  1. To make the base, place sugar in a heatproof pitcher or bowl, and pour boiling water and lemon juice over it.
  2. Stir vigorously until sugar dissolves.
  3. Cover and store in refrigerator until ready to serve.
  4. To serve, add the ice cold water and lemon and orange slices.
  5. Pour lemonade over glasses filled with ice cubes.
  6. Makes about 7 cups of lemonade, enough to serve 6 to 8 people, depending on glass size and how much ice is in the glass.
  7. NOTE: for old-fashioned soda fountain-style lemonade, substitute well-chilled lemon-lime soda for the 4½ cups water when ready to serve (7-up, Sprite, etc – I’ve even used orange soda and that’s a good flavor, too...create your own flavor with fruit juices or other soda flavors in place of the ice cold water).
