Beef And Onion Turnovers Recipe
BEEF AND ONION TURNOVERS This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Clarkson Estate in Heath Texas in 1992.

Ingredients
  • 12 ounces stew meat cubed
  • 1 cup diced peeled potato
  • 1 medium white onion chopped fine
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 3 cups all purpose flour sifted
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • Cold water to mix

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 then lightly oil a baking sheet.
  2. Cut beef into 1/4" dices then mix with vegetables and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Mix flour with a good pinch of salt then cut in butter until mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.
  4. Add just enough cold water to bind dough then divide into 4 pieces.
  5. On a lightly floured board roll out each piece into an 8" circle using a plate to cut around.
  6. Divide filling among pastry circles then dampen edges and bring together over filling.
  7. Seal edges then flute with fingers and place on baking sheet.
  8. Bake 15 minutes then reduce temperature to 325 and bake 1 hour more.
  9. Serve hot or cold.

This sure sounds delicious! I enjoy doing this type of recipes, they are such fun to do,to make the perfect looking turnovers!
