How to make it

  • Combine sour cream and soda; set aside.
  • Combine sugar, flour, and shortening; blend with pastry blender until crumbly.
  • Spoon half the mixture ino a greased 9-inch square pan.
  • Combine remaining crumb mixture with sour cream mixture, egg, and nutmeg; mix well.
  • Spoon batter over crumb mixture; sprinkle with nuts.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Yield: one 9-inch square cake.

    I love nutmeg...I can see this sliced up and served with fruit, maybe like my Devil Made Me Do It Strawberries and the spiced whipped cream. Hmmmm...you're giving me ideas! ;) Thanks for that.
