We made these at a Princess B'day party and I thought I would share the idea! We had a "wizard" help make these to spice up the activities.

Ingredients
  • Skures, like those you find in the grocery store for kaboos
  • glitter, we used multi colored to keep everyone happy
  • paper plates
  • beads, plastic, lots of colors
  • feathers, lots of different colors, sizes, shapes, textures
  • Glue
  • a small bowl
  • a small paint brush
  • wire, different colors, if you like

Directions
  1. Make sure there are no splinters on the skures, kids will be handling them.
  2. Pick a feather and two (2) beads, dip the end of the feather in the glue, attach the bead to the sharp pointy end slide the feather - glue end in between the bead and stick and push the bead down tightly down onto the stick to hold it all into place.
  3. Put the other bead on the other end of the wand.
  4. Use the paint brush to "paint" a thin layer of glue all over the stick, then sprinkle it with the glitter. Be sure to do this over a paper plate. Or just put the glitter on the the paper plate and let everyone sprinkle thier own wand with the glitter. If you choose to use different colors of glitter, then use different plates.
  5. If you like you may now wrap a piece of colored wire in a sprial down the wand. Some of the kids did the wire before the glitter, some of them did it after the glitter. Both ways worked and all of the kids were happy.
  6. We made up names for all of the ingredients.
  7. Glue became magick mushroom paste that was hand churned by gnomes.
  8. The glitter was magic dust.
  9. The feathers were to make the magic take to the air better, and faster.
  10. The wires were magical ground leads to connect your wand to the "sky/water/air (blue), earth/land/sand (browns/greens)," air could also be blue. Reds/oranges/yellows are for fire.
  11. Black is for the night magics and white is daytime magics.
  12. Silver is for moon magic and gold is for sun magic.
  13. Multi colored wires were for two or more types of magic.
  14. -
  15. We made up lots of things like this. Just stay all on the same page. We did not want the kids to get confused.
  16. When they were dry we checked them for magic! We said something like repeat after me: I will only use my magic wand for the good of all peoples and animals.
  17. Then WaLa the wand had magic!
  18. You can leave off any or all of the things if you like, like no wire, or no glitter. Beads you kinda need and the feather really makes it, but you might want to use something like silk leaves....

I hope I got it wrote up right. I hope you find a time to make the magic happen really soon at your place. we had a blast, and a mess, but it was such fun no one cared. We needed a wizard tent for out doors, but the wizard guy was great alone! Enjoy!
