Tamale Squares

- 3/4 CUP AP flour shopping list
- 3/4 CUP yellow cornmeal shopping list
- 2 TEASPOONS baking powder shopping list
- 1/4 TSP salt shopping list
- 3/4 CUP milk shopping list
- 3 TBLSPOONS butter MELTED shopping list
- 1 POUND ground chuck shopping list
- 1/2 CUP green pepper shopping list
- 1 PACKET taco seasoning shopping list
- 1 8 OUNCE JAR Cheese Whiz shopping list
- 1 CUP CHOPPED CUBED tomato shopping list
- 1 TABLESPOON chili powder. shopping list
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese shopping list
How to make it
- In a bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
- Reserve 1/4 cup chopped tomato.
- Meanwhile, brown ground beef in a medium frying pan.
- After meat is browned, drain well, then add green pepper, 3/4 cup tomatoes, Cheese Whiz , taco seasoning, chili powder, and 1/2 cup water.
- Heat through, stirring well, until mixture is bubbly and heated through.
- Remove from heat.
- To dry ingredients in mixing bowl, add milk and butter. Whisk together easily until blended and smoothe.
- Spray 8x8 or 7x11 baking dish well with non-stick spray.
- Pour tamale crust into pan, spreading evenly.
- Top with hamburger-cheese mixture.
- Bake for 20 minutes, then add shredded cheese to top, and bake 5 more minutes until melted and bubbly.
- Cool 5 minutes before cutting....Enjoy!
- NOTE: The crust will be browned around the outside--but your inside crust will be moist and very tender. This is normal!
