The Perfect Pie Crust

- 4 cups all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 tablespoon sugar shopping list
- 2 teaspoons salt shopping list
- 1 3/4 cup vegetable shortening ( I use Crisco) shopping list
- 1/2 cup ice cold water shopping list
- 1 tablespoons vinegar shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
How to make it
- Chill the vegetable shortening.
- In a large mixer bowl or food processor add flour, sugar, and salt and mix well.
- Add the chilled shortening and mix ingredients until crumbly.
- In small bowl beat together with fork, 1/2 cup water, vinegar and egg.
- Combine all the ingredients into one and mix till moist. Do not over mix.
- All ingredients can be mixed with a fork if you do not have a mixer or food processor.
- Divide dough into 4 or 5 portions and make a flat round.
- Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour.
- After one hour, pastry is ready for rolling.
- Pastry can be frozen for use at a later time.

This is great! I've always preferred using shortening in pie crust as well. Some people like tender pie crust and some like it flakey. If you want tender, use butter. If you like flakey, shortening is the way to go. This one sounds like a real winner...more
