Delightful, "two-layer" cheesecake. There may be few combinations that can outdo orange and chocolate.

  • 1 cup chocolate wafer cookie crumbs
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 32 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips, melted
  • 2 tablespoons cointreau
  • 1/2 teaspoon (or more) orange zest

Directions
  1. CRUST:
  2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  3. Combine cookie crumbs, cinnamon and butter well.
  4. Press onto bottom and a little up sides of an 8" springform pan.
  5. Bake crust for 10 minutes.
  6. Increase oven temperature to 350 degrees F.
  7. Beat together cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
  8. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.
  9. Blend in sour cream and vanilla extract.
  10. Divide batter in half.
  11. Blend chocolate into first half.
  12. Blend cointreau and zest into the rest of the batter.
  13. Pour chocolate batter into crust.
  14. Bake for 30 minutes.
  15. Reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees F.
  16. Spoon rest of batter over the chocolate layer.
  17. Bake another 30 minutes.
  18. Turn oven off.
  19. Prop open the door.
  20. Allow cake to remain in oven for 1 more hour.

I love chocolate and orange and always want one of the neat little chocolate orange candies in my stocking. Alac and Alas, Santa never delivers. But this cheesecake would certainly be an entertaining showstopper. We're doing a dessert buffet this year. This must be on the table.


Well I surely hope that the cake goes over well but I'm also hoping that Santa comes through with chocolate orange also! Thanks for the five, nym.
