Sausage And Green Chile Strata Recipe
Easy brunch favorite that i learned to make from a home economic teachers cook book.

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. bulk pork sausage
  • 3 slices white bread
  • soft butter or margarine
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 4 eggs slightly beaten
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/4 cup green chiles, drained seeded and chopped

Directions
  1. Crumble sausage in medium skillet: cook over high heat stirring frequently until meat is browned.
  2. Drain off excess grease and set aside
  3. Remove crusts from bread, lightly butter one side of each slice and cut into cubes.
  4. Place half of the bread cubes in bottom of a buttered 8" square pan
  5. Sprinkle with half of the cheese and cover with the sausage.
  6. Place remaining bread cubes over sausage and top with cheese.
  7. Combine eggs, milk and seasonings
  8. Pour over cheese and bread cubes.
  9. Cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight
  10. Before baking sprinkle with chopped green chilies .
  11. Bake uncovered at 350 for 1 hour until golden brown and set.
