I have been making this recipe since it was first posted about seven years ago. In fact, that is my review of it below as bestcooker. I *did* try making it using 1 C. ketchup and omitting the tomato sauce, and we liked it so well that that's the only way I make it now (omit the salt since there's plenty in the ketchup). When I made it again for dinner last night, I noticed something. The recipe says chopped celery and I have been using green pepper! I could have sworn the original recipe said green pepper not celery, and regular yellow mustard instead of ground! Based on those changes, I think that qualifies this for a new review. It's still our favorite sloppy joe recipe and we love it! I think of you every time I make it, sanzoe :) Added to I Made It Group 9-22-15: Sloppy Joes

These were as easy to make as opening a can of Manwich! I made the mixture first thing in the morning and let it sit in the refrigerator all day so the flavors could meld. Like most tomato based sauces, I think it tastes better after it sits a while and is reheated. The only thing I didn't add was the hot sauce, but otherwise followed the recipe. I did have to take the lid off while simmering, as it got a little soupy for my taste, but it thickened up nicely when I did that. Next time I think I will try using all ketchup instead of tomato sauce to get the extra spices. I served these with oven baked potato wedges and steamed green beans. A quick, easy meal! Thank you for sharing your recipe, sanzoe!

Mcboo-You can use either I prefer the sweet but hubby likes the dill you can also use vinegar but the pickle juice gives it a little more flavor.
