Ingredients

How to make it

  • Combine ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower heat to a bare simmer and reduce to 1 ½ - 2 cups. (approx. 1 1/2 - 2 hrs.) You are looking for a consistency similar to that of regular molasses. Transfer to an appropriate container. Pint fruit jars work well. Store in the refrigerator 6 – 8 weeks.

The story behind this recipe is very nice, thank you for sharing Jim!
I want to make this and use it in cooking the way you do. Do you think it is ok to make the juice myself? The markets are loaded with pomegranates this time of the year here...
    Flagged unique.

I have a sister-in-law of lebanese decent, wonder if she knows about this. Thinks I will send it to her and make some myself. Thanks for the terrific post.

Wow, I totally agree with Julia - love the recipe and back story. And here I was going to see if I could find it in the store this weekend. I know I can get my hands on organic pomegranate juice, so I can make this easily. Thanks so much for sharing this, m'dear. ;)

First of all, love the recipe and the story behind it in the description! Secondly, this is SO easy, I am almost shocked! I also thought this would use a lot more sugar than 1 tbsp., to make it a molasses consistency. I can already see this as an accomponiment to a lot of desserts, like ice cream, blintzes(European pancakes), as a glaze on ham, etc., etc!!! Thank you so much for posting this!
