Boston Cream Pie

- Ingredients for cake shopping list
- 3 c.flour shopping list
- 2c.sugar shopping list
- 3t.baking powder shopping list
- 1t.salt shopping list
- 11/2 c. milk shopping list
- 2/3 c. shortening shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1t.vanilla shopping list
- For the filling shopping list
- 1/3 c. sugar shopping list
- 2T. cornstarch shopping list
- 1/8 t. salt shopping list
- 1 1/2 c.milk shopping list
- 2 egg yolk slightly beaten shopping list
- 2t. vanilla shopping list
- For the glaze shopping list
- 1/3 c. butter or margarine shopping list
- 2 c. confectioners' sugar shopping list
- 1 1/2 t. vanilla shopping list
- 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate (cool) shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease and flour two round cake pans
- Measure all cake ingredients into large mixer bowl.
- Blend 1/2 minon low speed, scraping bowl constantly.
- beat 3 minutes high speed, scraping bowl occasionally.
- Pour into pans.
- Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick comes out clean. Cool
- Make Filling
- Blend sugar, cornstarch and salt in medium saucepan.
- Combine milk and egg yolks;gradually stir into sugar mixture.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and boils.
- Boil and stir 1 minute.
- Remove from heat;stir in vanilla.
- Cool to room temperature.
- Spread on top of one layer of the cake then put the other layer on top of the filling.
- Now make the glaze
- Melt butter in sauce pan. Blend in sugar,chocolate and vanilla.
- Stir in water,1 tablespoon at a time,untill glaze is of proper consistency.
- Spread on top of cake and let drizzle down the sides.

I made this for my daughter's birthday - it came out great! I thinned the glaze out w/ some whipping cream. It was all very good!!! I don't think I could make cake from a box ever again!!
