Boston Cream Pie Recipe
This cake is so good.It is great for a special occasion like Fathers Day.

Ingredients
  • Ingredients for Cake
  • 3 c.Flour
  • 2c.sugar
  • 3t.baking powder
  • 1t.salt
  • 11/2 c. milk
  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1t.vanilla
  • For the filling
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 2T. cornstarch
  • 1/8 t. salt
  • 1 1/2 c.milk
  • 2 egg yolk slightly beaten
  • 2t. vanilla
  • For the glaze
  • 1/3 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 c. confectioners' sugar
  • 1 1/2 t. vanilla
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate (cool)

Directions
  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour two round cake pans
  3. Measure all cake ingredients into large mixer bowl.
  4. Blend 1/2 minon low speed, scraping bowl constantly.
  5. beat 3 minutes high speed, scraping bowl occasionally.
  6. Pour into pans.
  7. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick comes out clean. Cool
  8. Make Filling
  9. Blend sugar, cornstarch and salt in medium saucepan.
  10. Combine milk and egg yolks;gradually stir into sugar mixture.
  11. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and boils.
  12. Boil and stir 1 minute.
  13. Remove from heat;stir in vanilla.
  14. Cool to room temperature.
  15. Spread on top of one layer of the cake then put the other layer on top of the filling.
  16. Now make the glaze
  17. Melt butter in sauce pan. Blend in sugar,chocolate and vanilla.
  18. Stir in water,1 tablespoon at a time,untill glaze is of proper consistency.
  19. Spread on top of cake and let drizzle down the sides.
  20. Enjoy!!!!!!

I made this for my daughter's birthday - it came out great! I thinned the glaze out w/ some whipping cream. It was all very good!!! I don't think I could make cake from a box ever again!!

If you look on my page on the picture of my husband lighting the birthday candles, that is your cake...but I topped it w/ yellow sprinkles and candles to make it festive for the kids.
