Ingredients
  • 8 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples
  • 1/2 lime
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger or pumpkin pie spice

Directions
  1. Put apples in a sauce pan and squeeze lime over them, so that they don’t turn brown (and adds a bit of tartness).
  2. Pour water and brown sugar over the apples, add spice and stir.
  3. Cover, and cook at a low boil for 10 – 15 minutes.
  4. Mash a bit with a potato masher.
  5. This is wonderful with breakfast, particularly over Potato pancakes.

This was very, very good. I served it as a side to pork loin chops. I used Gala apples and fresh grated ginger. Thanks for such a down home simple recipe.

Thank you SO much for the comment. I tend to think some of the best things in life (and food) are the most simple. It's so much fun to see others trying these recipes!

I had homemade apple sauce for the first time and it was YUMMY!!
