Maleskes Onion Blossom

- 1 large Vidalia or other sweet onion shopping list
- 1 large egg lightly beaten shopping list
- vegetable oil shopping list
- 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 cup of saltine cracker crumbs shopping list
- 1/2 tsp of salt shopping list
- 1/2 cup of prepared siracha sauce shopping list
- 1/2 cup of prepared ranch dressing shopping list
How to make it
- Peel onion, leaving root end intact.
- Cut onion vertically into quarter, cutting to within 1/2 inch of the rood end.
- Cut each quarter into thirds.
- Place onion in boiling water for one minute.
- Remove and place in ice water for five minutes.
- Loosen "petals" if necessary and drain onion well, cut side down.
- Place flour in zip-top plastic bag and add onion, shaking to coat.
- Remove and dip onion in egg.
- Place cracker crumbs in bag and add onion, tossing to coat.
- Chill for at least one hour.
- Pour oil to depth of 3 inches in electric fryer or heavy saucepand and heat to 375 degrees.
- Fry onion 5 - 7 minutes or until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with salt while hot.
- Serve with spicy dipping sauce or with dark honey mustard dip.
