French Kiss Toast

- 4 slices Texas toast (1" thick white bread) OR one loaf white bread (day-old preferably) shopping list
- 6 large eggs shopping list
- 1 ½ cups milk shopping list
- 1 cup light cream shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg shopping list
- 1/4 cup soft butter or margarine shopping list
- 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup shopping list
How to make it
- Butter a 9" square baking pan. Overlap bread slices to completely fill pan. In a medium bowl, combine eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg, mixing well.
- Pour over bread slices, then cover and refrigerate overnight. Next day, remove from fridge 3/4 hour before baking and preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a small bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup, mixing well. Spread this mixture evenly over the bread. (You can also put some of this mixture in between bread layers)
- Bake 45-60 minutes or until puffed and golden. Serve with warm maple syrup.
