This lovely Hungarian stew recipe was printed in the January1, 2009 issue of Woman's Day magazine. AND it's a slow cooker recipe to boot! I might chop the veggies instead of slicing them...

Ingredients
  • 1 1/4pounds beef chuck in 3/4" pieces
  • 1 pound carrots, sliced
  • 2 medium onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups thinly sliced cabbage
  • 2 cups water OR 1 1/2 cups water and 1/2 cup red wine
  • 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 1 envelope onion-mushroom soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 8 ounces reduced-fat sour cream
  • Egg noodles

Directions
  1. Mix all ingredients EXCEPT sour cream in slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook for 8 to10 hours on low until meat is tender.
  3. Turn off cooker.
  4. Stir in sour cream until well blended.
  5. Makes 8 cups stew.

You guys! Thanks for liking this one.. it's just a beef stew and you've all waxed so poetic on me. SLOW is ALWAYS good, grizz! When cabbage is an ingredient, I use white unless the recipe states otherwise, otter. You and me both with the cabbage and caraway connection, greg! Stop back when you've tried this one, my friends.
