Chocolate Italian Cream Cake

- 1/2 cup stick butter shopping list
- 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
- 2 cups sugar shopping list
- 5 eggs (separated) shopping list
- 2 cups cake flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 cup cocoa shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1/2 cup sour cream shopping list
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract shopping list
- 1/2 cup coconut (topping) shopping list
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (topping) shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream together butter, shortening, and sugar.
- Add egg yolks one at a time.
- Mix in flour, baking soda, cocoa, buttermilk, sour cream and vanilla extract.
- Mix together for 2 minutes or until batter is smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg whites, and fold into cake batter.
- Spray three 9 inch pans; divide batter into three equal amounts and fill cake pans.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until cake tester comes out clean.
