Carnitas

    Recipe by Stonee: Carnitas/saved
It's pulled pork by another name. Also has southwest spice, bbq sauce and lime juice thrown in there that all gets a little singed under the broiler.
Made mine into a pulled pork sammie. Only had a half bottle of bbq sauce so that's what it got.
Had a lot of liquid left in the crock and didn't want to put it all back into the shred bake. Only used a couple half ladles of it so as not to make the shred too soggy.
Need to get me some refried beans, sour cream and flour tortillas to make this into some good burritos and maybe even fry one.
Meat was plenty fall-off-the-bone done at the end of 6 hours in my standard round 3 1/2qt crock and only took 3 minutes to singe under my broiler at 6" clear which is default to 550F.
Used 5lb pork butt trimmed of the fat cap. Used Hamburger Buns recipe by Chefjeb made into a dozen buns.

I made carnitas one time long ago and they had orange in it. I remember them having a lot of liquid, too. Looks like those would be great in a flour tortilla, too! Love the picture.

Broiling it at the end is such a good idea! Frankie, I have seen a ton of carnitas with orange in it, must be a popular thing :)
