Grilled Chicken Caprese Sandwiches

This marinade is some pretty serious stuff! The chicken just sucked up the flavor...and I marinated it for 3 1/2 hours!! Made up the mayo earlier in the day and let it sit in the fridge until ready. Don't skip the basil, it's perfect on this sandwich! Everyone was happy and full after this meal. Left another delicious one Keni :) That is a kumato tomato in the pic, not a pickle (which I kinda think it looks like)

You are "A Sandwich Monster":) Beautiful pics! I have never heard of a kumato? I had to go look it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumato
I bookmarked this one. I am sure it would be delicious without a couple of dashes of hot sauce:)

That's interesting, I didn't know growing kumatos was so strict! I had just seen kumato's for the first time a couple months ago and had thought when it's time to plant my summer garden, I would look for seeds, but sadly it looks as though we aren't allowed to grow them :( No wonder I couldn't find them lol!

Oh, yummmymy! That mayonnaise looks delicious! I never heard of a kumato before. Does it taste like a regular ol' tomato?

Oh and I'm sure you can leave out the hot pepper sauce Joce :) I'm sure FA would too! I like kumato's a lot, they are pretty to look at and a little sweeter than regular tomatoes. They are about $3.50 for a 6 pack.

Michelle, that sandwich looks absolutely delectable. Nice job! I had this bookmarked but forgot about it. Will try remember once we get some fresh tomatoes and basil in the garden although that's not going to be for at least 4-5 months! I'm tickled to see the homemade balsamic mayo mixture. I'd just seen a jar of Hellman's Balsamic Mayo in the store this past week but was thinking it was way too much for just the two of us to use up. Keni's homemade will taste much better I'm sure plus I could make up whatever sized batch I wanted.
Joce, I've seen Kumato tomatoes in Sobey's and Farm Boy. I'm sure Foodsmith's must get them.

Hehe, I know I'm looking SO forward to my tomatoes and basil too! Your going to love the mayo mix!!
They are challah rolls from Whole Foods. And yes they are SOOOOO good, and yes I probably paid too much for them :)

Save some seeds from your Kumoto tomatoes Michelle. I have done that with heirloom tomatoes and they did very well in my garden:)

Oh good idea!! But the only place I can find Kumato's is Trader Joes which I won't be making a trip there for another couple months. I will definitely remember that next year! Wish I would have brought up this conversation 2 weeks ago :)

I thought about the seeds, too, but the Wikipedia article says they won't work as the Kumato plant is a hybrid. It probably wouldn't hurt to try though. Just don't have very high expectations. :)

Hybrids do not come true to seed. It will be of the parentage. If you can get them on the vine with more than the flour cluster stem you might be able to plant and make it grow. All those little hairs on the stem will turn into roots when contacting dirt. Alternately do some research on what crosses to make a Kumato and you may be able to get some seed from its parents and cross-pollinate them for yourself.

Interesting facts Points. I came across this and some people have apparently had some success growing Kumatos from saving the seeds? http://tomatoaddict.blogspot.ca/2008/04/kumatorosso-bruno.html

Yes, some have. But they will be an F2 or more, not an F1. Also there are rumblings that the Rosso Bruno tomato is the same as the Kumato. But both are Hybrids.
I grow my share of tomatoes but haven't been into cross-breeding. Maybe someday.

I haven't either. I save seeds from almost everything that I can, b/c I am finding more plants and flowers are Hybrids now. Then it costs me more to buy them every year than from seeds which aren't available anymore:(

As others are trying, you can save the seeds of the Kumato and breed them to theirselves (as in plant to plant of the same variety) for several generations to see if you can grow them out to be a stable heirloom open pollinated variety. Then it should be your tomato plant not subject to copyright laws.

Remember to try the Rosso Bruno tomato. It might be the same thing as the Kumato and may be more readily available in Canada.

I just saw a kumato tomato at HEB for the first time!! They were so expensive that I didn't buy them, much cheaper at Trader Joes. Too late anyway to try and start a tomato plant from seed here anyway, if I plant from seed I would start it indoors mid February.
I have never seen a Rosso Bruno tomato Points. Will look for a packet next year...

It was delicious. I forgot to note that I only had a bag of shredded mozzarella in my refrigerator - no sliced. But, I wasn't about to go to town just for sliced. I put some of the shredded on the bottom bun while I toasted the bun. Was OK for me! :)
