Jetts Easy Pie Crust

  • browneyegirl 10 years ago
I was going to make this yesterday afternoon.I was still up at 1 AM this morning knowing that I couldn't sleep. As I made this this morning that I went with what Jett2whitt said on the recipe. As I went to roll it out that the dough wasn't working with me at all.So I had to put the dough back into the bowl and add an egg (1 egg that is).To let you know. This was the first time for me doing an pie crust and it may be my last time for me making an pie crust. Here is Jett2witt's recipe for Jetts Easy Pie Crust and her picture (s) looks better then the one that you see on the photo that I took.I was so disappointed and I made my Peanut Butter dough for this pie.If you would like for me to share that recipe on the Peanut Butter Pie (The version that I came up with on the dough), please let me know and I'll add the recipe.

Did you fall down the first time you tried to walk? Have you resigned to crawl the rest of your life?
Get back in there slugger and try again. Try another recipe. This one lacks a lot of instructions for a beginner pie crust maker. Find a recipe that holds your hand with good tips throughout the recipe.

What do you mean by that on what you said?It was my first time making a pie crust.
No I didn't fall down the first time that I've tried to walk. Why would you say that on the crawling? No I'm not going to crawl for the rest of my life. Why is everyone making front of me for?I didn't do nothing wrong.I'm not for sure when I'll make it for sure.I know that I want to make it again.Truthfully I had gaven up on alot of recipes that I had made my ownself.

It's a simile using an example in life illustrating the first pie crust you've tried to make. Of course you fell down when you first tried to walk. Everyone does. But people walk just the same. I don't see any adult crawling around on their hands and knees. My first pie crust was a flop too. But now I make better and better crusts.
If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.
I was chiding you as an encouragement to keep at it.
    No disrespect meant at all!

BEG, no one makes fun of anyone here in this group. Pso was just saying to try again before giving up. I have a horrible time making biscuits but I keep trying. I'll make a good one someday. So, yeah, I fell down on biscuits! A lot!
This is the kind of pie crust I remember making when my mom was teaching me. Try this one.

I think Pointsevenout just means to say if you don't succeed the first time, try and try again! No one is making fun of you! Pie crusts are a tricky thing and it can take someone many tries before they get it right!
The crust probably shrank because of the oil in the recipe, perhaps it should have been refrigerated before rolling out! I find a glass pie plate works best for crust, and never grease it just sprinkle a little flour on the pie plate before adding the crust. When you pre-bake the crust (also known as blind-bake), you need some weight inside, like dried rice or beans and poke the bottom all over with a fork to let the steam escape and help it bake evenly. Like Points said above, try another recipe that gives you all the step by step instructions for a pie crust.
    Good luck next time!

Think there's still a better recipe out there for a novice. Try this one Pat In The Pan Pie Crust
No rolling. Just mix all the stuff up in the pie plate you are going to use and moosh it around to form the crust.

Nirvana for a pie crust is light, flaky and golden brown. Working the dough too much defeats this due to the gluten buildup that working the dough creates. If you do a recipe search using "crust", there are 52 pages. A lot of them use a secret ingredient of vinegar or vodka. They makes the dough easier to work with and evaporate out quickly due to the lowered vapor point.
One secret you won't find out there in cyber-land is to use pastry flour. I can't get pastry flour in my neck of the woods. So I combine 50/50 cake flour and all-purpose flour. It yields close to pastry flour.

The thing is ~ is that I was so dissappinted for the first time.I know that I can't give up though.Truthfully to be honest with you all.I had always been made front of when it comes to ingredients to food and sweets. There has been times that I had pretty much given up.Most of my life has had been a mess up when it comes to food and sweets.
Pointsevenout, I see what you are sayen.I was tryen to get my brain awake after being asleep.I was waking up from a nap then.I see your point.
Frankieianne, I wasn't myself eariler.I may have to try that recipe out that you posted on the link.I would never make front of you or any one here on this site.
Cosmicmother, I understand it now.I wasn't being myself then.I wasn't being myself. The thing is ~ is that I don't having an rolling pin. Why?I had one and I didn't see myself using it then when I had it.So I gave the rolling pin to Chris's sister.I hope the next time that I do a pie crust that I do a better job.I just remember my mom making this pie crust but the thing is ~ is that I never knew her using oil though.I shouldve'd gotten my mom's cook books, recipe boxes and any family recipes that my mom had when I was at her trailer when we were getting her stuff.Yeah my mom is gone (past away) and I have no family recipes of my mom's and her side of the family. All I got is Kathy's recipes.Kathy is my mom's sister in law and I got a few of Kathy's recipes before she past away.
NPMarie, I don't know if you knew this.I had always been made front of.
I always seen (watched) my mom make pie crust & I always thought to myself that I would "NEVER EVER" do pie crusts.Okay I proved myself wrong.I made myself as a lier now.

Its OK, Jett. We know you are a busy working gal. I know the feeling. :)
BEG, some people don't come here as often as others so things may not get done right away. In fact, lots of people don't come here at all anymore.
