Otterpond London Broil

Oh my goodness! What a lovely dinner we had this evening. Thank you Laura so much for this most wonderful recipe.
    Otterpond London Broil
I quite enjoyed making this recipe. It has three parts. You make up the marinade.
    Beggers Marinade
which was lovely. And then you marinate the flank steak in that for awhile. And then you take it out of the marinade and rub it down with a really lovely rub.
    Dry Rub For Barbeque
And then you grill it. Medium Rare. (And I like it probably a bit rarer than that!) :)
To be honest.....I couldn't really tell that the piece of flank steak had been in marinade. Although that being said.the steak was tender. And I only had enough time to marinate it for probably seven hours. The rub.....on the other hand...was amazing and totally flavoured the steak.
I will go up on the soap box and complain about the price my grocery store charged for the flank steak. Here you have a cut of meat that is tough unless you marinate it. I bought a small one, probably less than a pound, enough for three people.....and it cost me about $13. Next time I'll watch for a nice thick round steak to go on sale instead.
This is a super yummy recipe. Very flavourful and very tender and oh so good. I will totally add this to my regular summer BBQ rotation. Next time I will marinate my steak overnight and see if I can then tell the flavour of it permeated the meat.
    Kudos Laura. We LOVED it!

OH MY! That looks awesome Janet:) I suppose though if you ordered it in a restaurant when you think about it you are still way way ahead of the game. Super pic and thanks to Laura and you I might just give this a whirl:)

Great picture Janet. I am totally there with you on grocery prices. I have become a hawk at the butcher counter waiting for sales on family packs. I repackage them at home, label, date and freeze. Even the Costco meat section has gotten usurious.

That is a gorgeous plate of flank steak! Wow. It looks so good.
I don't know why flank steak is so expensive. I remember when it was the "cheap" cut of meat. Now I can't afford it. Someone I know theorizes that it went up when fajitas became popular.

You're right Joce. It was a great meal and I'd have paid a lot more for it in a restaurant. And it was awfully fun to try and it was worth every penny.
Love 'usurious' Laura. Perfect term! :)
Ya, the Fajita thought sounds like a good one Frankieanne.

    That looks nicely cooked!
It must have been a long time since I've bought flank steak, because the last I remember it was cheap! I guess it has been over a year. I do have round steak on hand most the time..may try this with it!
