Peanut Butter Granola Bites

Recipe by Akitchenaddiction: Peanut Butter Granola Bites
Nice snack. Takes the edge off a hunger. Makes the house smell wonderful. I was expecting it to taste more sweet gauging on the wafting aroma. It's not sweet, but one can't expect a "good for you" snack to be sweet. It is flavorful.
Was surprised I had all the ingredients in the house.
Doubled the recipe. Got down into it with my hands to make the bites. Dough is very sticky. Doubled recipe made 15 bits for me, with the last one scraped off my hands.
Had a tough time telling if the bites were starting to brown. They are very dark going into the oven anyway.
My bites are probably a little bigger (medium to large meatball size) than the recipe pic. Took the full 15 minutes and they didn't look or feel done. Added 5 more minutes.

Do you think I could use some Great Grains Almond Granola that is starting to smell a little funky for this?? Rather than all the separate grains?? Or toss the Granola??

Hey Points, sort of a slight going to rancid old smell, not bad rotten smell, wondering if it is the almonds in it. Found it in the back of the pantry! Most likely not good to keep, maybe I should just feed it to the birds??

Where do you get ground flaxseed in your neck of the woods, pso. At the health food store? I'm curious as I would have no idea where to get it here.

Hey Frankieanne, not that your asking me, but I have bought it at the bulk section of the grocery store, as well as at Costco.

Oh, thank you, Lobster. Now I think I know where I could get it here (we don't have a Costco). Thanks again.

Have no idea where I picked it up! Been setting in the fridge for a long time. Was glad to run across a recipe that used it. Doesn't smell like toe jam yet.

hey PSO if it is smelling like toe jam Im thinking its close to the funk smell LOL - I made these myself and I have to agree with you about not knowing from the color if they were done or not - so the next time I made them I used a lighter brown sugar which is what I used instead of the honey (allergic) and the peanut butter if you use the chunck or the smooth makes a difference in the color as well - made a huge difference in the taste as well
