Slowed Cooked Chili

I so bad wanted to change 'slowed' to 'slow' in the title but I didn't. Anyway, this was some great chili! Had to look up what Sofrito is and apparently it is just like a homemade salsa http://allrecipes.com/recipe/52491/sofrito/ so I just used my own recipe for salsa, close enough! Also made my own Sazon seasoning http://www.food.com/recipe/sazon-the-dry-mix-404770 Didn't use kidney beans I used some beans my MIL gave me called Anasazi beans. The only thing I added at the end was a little extra salt and didn't add the cumin since the Sazon recipe had some in it, didn't want to go overboard! Served it up with some shredded cheddar, yum!

Everything is pre-cooked. Why on earth does it have to go into a slowed cooker?

I don't like the way throwing raw onions in the slow cooker come out. They take forever to get cooked, and I did the 4hrs. on high. Plus flavors build in chili the longer it cooks IMO....and I didn't have time during the day and early evening to sit there and monitor and stir on a stove top. I've got busy kids lol.

I believe all slow cooker recipes like chili or spaghetti sauce that use ground beef have you cook the beef first before you put it in the slow cooker. Meatloaf in a slow cooker is the exception. Cooking it longer enhances the flavors - without stirring. :-)
That looks like a really good chili recipe!
What is Sazon though! Never heard of that!
Oh, duh. I'm on the internet. Guess I can Google it. :-P

Still confused. Is it like a packet of chili seasoning?

Yeah it's a packet, I bought a box of it with like 8 packets of it. It's not just used in chili, here is another recipe I think I might use my leftover Sazon seasoning on Crispy Beef Ribs In Oven. :) :)

I bought the box of it a couple years ago though, I was out so that's why I made it from scratch :) Now after I Googled it though I see it has cilantro and tomato and that wasn't in the Sazon recipe I used, so not sure if I got the right flavors, but the chili recipe had enough tomato anyway and the 'sofrito' had a ton of cilantro...so I think I'm good :)

I had no idea what Sazon is, either Frankie. Seeing that it contains cilantro, it's a good thing you made you own, Ml2c. We are not cilantro fans at all!

Awesome photo! Looks like something for a nice chilly day. I love Anasazi beans! That's the only type of bean I use for making refried beans. They are so easy to use and have great flavor. Bet that was some tasty chili!

I had to look up Anasazi beans, too, because I'd never heard of them, either! They look like kidney beans. Is that how they taste? We love kidney beans in our chili! We've been to the Anasazi ruins out west several times, but I don't remember hearing about the beans.

We have beans at our Farmer's Market called Cranberry Beans that looks just like these, wonder if they are the same thing? Anyway, they are softer than kidney beans when cooked I would say they compare pretty close to pintos.
