A Pug for Sunday.....

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
Good Morning Everyone and Happy Sunday! Pic below is of a friend of mine's Pug. He took the photo this past week on a wet, slushy day and posted it on Facebook. The caption read "Ok, I know you can make me go outside in the wet, but let the record show that I do so under duress!". I believe he has at least three pugs. Pretty cute eh? :)
Well my poor old Ottawa Senators lost their Hockey Game last night. I did get all my Christmas wrapping done yesterday afternoon. Jim and I are heading out tomorrow to hopefully finish up the last of the shopping.
Today I think I may crank on the Christmas tunes and make
    Gingerbread Men
    Feeling melancholy today....missing Benjamin. :(
Not sure what to make for dinner yet but HURRAY the leftovers are all finished up from the fridge so I have some room!
    Have a great day.

Got the Gingerbread dough chilling in the fridge. Jim has requested
    Spicy Cumin Lamb Chops
and Beet Carpaccio as a side. Might make something special for lunch too. I'm in cooking mode. :)

Good morning Janet:) Good morning ladies of ODD:)

I bookmarked your Gingerbread recipe..I do need to find some cookie cutters though..do they make gingerbread women cookie cutters? That would be cute Gingerbread Men & Women:)
Awwww Janet, I know it's hard not having Benjamin around for the holidays..it won't be long before he'll be home:) I am so happy he's coming home in February!!!!

We're going to go to brekkie then do some Christmas shopping for the grandsons..Rick wants to get them walkie talkies..we both had them as kids and LOVED them..I don't know if they are "out of style" with all of this new technology, but that's what their getting..along with a few other items:) Nothing like waiting until the last minute! That's how we roll at Christmas..I despise shopping in crowds! I thought if we get an early start it won't be so bad:)

Can't decide on dinner, I'll let you know when I know!!!!!

Hope everyone is having a lovely cozy Sunday:)

Janet, what a cute pug. I feel his disgust! I have to go to urgent care. We had a catastrophic accident last night between dogs and my hand is in need of stitches. Fred very stupidly tried to give Skippy a bowl to lick and Charlie shoved his face in the bowl. Skippy bit him through his tongue. He bit her and while I was separating mouths my hand was punctured in three places. It hurts terribly. Another holiday in the ER.

Janet, I am sorry that you are a bit melancholy. Maybe the baking and tunes will help. Big hug.

    Later, my friends.

Morning Marie! :) The last person who tried my Gingerbread recipe said she had to add two more cups of flour to her dough as it was too sticky. I'm quite perplexed that I was off by two cups as that's a heck of a lot! Indeed the dough is very sticky 'before' you chill it, but I'm thinking it firms up in the fridge to the point where it's perfect for rolling. Haven't made them since she did so today will be the telling tale. I'll be sure to tell you. And yes! They certainly do make Gingerbread Women cutters. If you look in my smaller picture on that recipe page you can see them. :) And thanks....I needed reminding that February is not far away at all and Benjamin will be here in person soon. Guess the Holidays just bring home how far away he is. I loved Walkie Talkies too and we gave a set to Benjamin and he got a lot of use out of them especially with his friends out in the woods. Infact, Jim and I are now using them to keep track of each other when Jim fades into the woods. :) I hear you on despising shopping in crowds. I have to go to Chapters. It's usually NUTS in there at Christmas time with huge line ups for the cash. I won't go today as the weekends are the worst and I'll try get there tomorrow morning as early as I can. Good Luck with your shopping.
Oh Tina. Goodness me. I'm sorry you got bit. Argh. Do keep us tuned how you make out. I shall go put on some Christmas tunes this moment. Thanks.
    Making this

Walkie talkies are still an awesome gift for kids Marie! Caiden has been asking for some for months, so guess what's under the tree :) Haha, no matter how early I start Christmas shopping, there's always that one person I wait until the last second to shop for. Not sure why?

Oh no Tina! :( :( Hopefully you get all stitched up and back home quickly. Crossing my fingers for you, what an ordeal!

We had a blast yesterday. Played pool for about 3 hours then instead of coming home and eating left overs like we should have we went and ate Italian lol! https://zios.com/menu/ The Texans game is on today at noon, so I decided to make up some chicken burgers for lunch. If I have some pesto in my fridge I'm going to make these Pesto Chicken Burgers. Dinner will be the much needed to eat leftovers :) Have a great day everyone!

You've described me to a "T" Michelle. I'm usually pretty good at picking up gifts for people throughout the year but there's always "ONE" person I draw a blank for and that's the case this year as well. And it's so stressful! :) Glad you had such a nice time playing pool and then out for dinner. Yum on chicken burgers. That pesto burger recipe sounds very good. Let me know how it tastes. I always have pesto on hand in my freezer. Go Texans. :) What did you eat at the restaurant. Off to check the link.
Was majorally stressing a moment ago as I couldn't find my Gingerbread cutters. Heart palpitations. But I found them. Whew. :)

Haha, Yes! The person or people that buy for last are always the one's I can't think of a gift for! This year it was my FIL and my Sister. We did get their gifts yesterday before playing pool, and we managed to avoid the Mall, so it wasn't too bad :) At Zio's we got the Bruschetta for an appy, and for my entree I got the Lemon Chicken Primavera. Both were good but the Primavera had A LOT of liquid in the bottom of the bowl. Tasted good though. I think that has a lot to do with them literally taking the pasta straight out of the water into the bowl and not properly letting it drain. Michael got Manicotti and it was SO GOOD!!! Why does he always seem to pick the right food?! LOL!

UGH! The lamb is off the table. I took it out of its packaging and its bad. What a horrid smell. Stomach lurch. I got it at Costco a couple of months ago. :( Bumping the Tapas up to dinner time and will maybe make a
    Potato Chip Sandwich
    for our lunch.
My 'last' present is for my girlfriend who runs the Flower shop. Your dinner choices sounded yummy Michelle. LOL @ Michael ordering the right stuff lately. :) The Tapas recipe is dynamite. I made it once before but bought the chorizo that pretty much crumbles and although it tasted awesome I knew I'd bought the wrong sausage so this time I have the chorizo that holds its shape.

hey all, i have a brace on left hand. can't stitch wound where it is between thumb and forefinger in fleshy part where thumb and palm meet. they put on steristrips to pull it together doc asked if i got bit by a tiger, the wound is so deep. only 25 % dog bites get infected....guess what percent I'm in. red streaks up forearm and swelling. no bone break by xrays, but range of motion for thumb and forefinger is severely compromised, referred to orthopedic because he suspects tendon damage where the wound is. told me I'm might have to give up my concert pianist career. haha funny. hurts a lot. skippy is resting at vet, drain in her shoulder wound. Charlie on soft food for the hole in his tongue and lip. fred swears he will never ever let the dogs eat from his bowl again.

last minute gifts are hard! good luck shopping.
I hope the gingerbread people come out well. oh no on lamb.
I think we will have whatever fred can muster.

Tina, take good care..so sorry you are in pain sweetie:(

Janet, oh no on the lamb! Good that you have a back up plan in place...I'm pretty sure your gingerbread recipe is just fine, maybe the person who commented on having to add more flour probably didn't follow your directions properly? I have never made gingerbread cookies and would like to try it someday soon..your recipe looks fabulous:)

Michelle, We thought walkie talkies would be fun for the boys! That makes me feel better knowing Caiden wanted them as well:)

Guess we'll be having chicken tamales (our neighbors who make tamales gave us some frozen the other day!) and spanish rice..maybe a salad to go with:)

    Second try to post. Sigh.

Ugh on the lamb going bad. I haven't tried lamb but have heard it is a bit tricky to get right. Maybe someday. We know someone who raises them but have not had the urge to try it.

Yikes on the dog bites. Did you convince the doctors it was an accident without any problems? After all, it was hardly an attack on you, just an accident. I don't know much about breaking up dog fights - cats you can dump cold water on and it works - usually. The last dog encounter we had was when a raccoon attacked Homer on the porch and they were snarling and rolling over the porch. Fortunately they broke off and Wayne dispatched the 'coon ASAP.

Walky talkies are wonderful gifts for kids. We have 2 way radios that we use during deer season. They are very handy.

Heard 6 closely spaced shots to the south. They were loud, like muzzle loaders, but too close together for them, unless several idiots - er - hunters were messing around. We could not tell if they were in the woods or on our property. Since a 200 acre place several miles or so from here sold out in 5 to 20 acre plots, we have too many people for the area water supply and they won't stay on their own place or in the public lands when hunting. Several landowners have had some of the dummies trespass on their property, cut fences to enter, and discovered one even put a deer stand right beside his fence-line.

    Hi to everyone!

Dogs not in trouble, thankfully. I'm the one who stuck my hand in his jaw to loosen his grip on Skippy. left hand pry jaw and right hand grab collar and choke. Skippy is eating at vets and in good spirits.

Oh my Karen on the shots you heard. Dummies is a kind word to use.

Marie, I love tamales. Wish I were there. hugs.

Shall check out that Downton link soon Marie. Thanks for mentioning it, I didn't notice the new post.
TINA! Unbelievable honestly. Infected and suspected tendon damage. Holy smokes. I honestly can't believe your bad luck. Poor pups too. I so wish I could teleport myself there and give you a hand for a few days. Thinking of you GF.
I will actually change the gingerbread cookie as soon as I'm done here Marie. She was right. What I did was just type in my SIL's recipe but indeed today when I made it to spec and chilled the dough it was way too soft to properly roll. Indeed it did need another couple cups of flour. And it wouldn't have triggered to me as I always tend to add more if I notice and even cook times I take with a grain of salt and I always eyeball it. But when you are sharing the recipe you do indeed want it to be accurate. I will mention I've amended it. And then you shall be good to go. It's honestly a wonderful cookie. Sooo flavourful and soft and Christmassy. Yum on the Chicken Tamales. Enjoy.
We'd just freak if someone put a deer stand (we call them deer blinds/same diff) inside our fence line. Jim would declare war for sure. :)

Karen, you know, I think I just might get Rick walkie talkies for Christmas..if there are any to be found that is..I am such a bad Christmas shopper:) He still has his 1 (don't know where the other one is, maybe his younger brother has it) from when he was a little tyke..that way we could reach each other when I don't know where the heck he wandered off to..haha Man, that would make me nervous hearing someone shooting a gun nearby!

Tina, I'm with Janet, sure wish I could be there to help out..hope your hand heals quickly dear...xoxox

Janet, ok good that you have the cookie recipe perfected and all! I adore gingerbread..I won't be making any for Christmas..too late to look for cookie cutters:) I'll have to wait until next year! Thanks for letting me know!!!
You will get a kick out of that DA link!!!!

Joce, how are you doing dear?

Well, it's about time to watch the evening news...

this one handed stuff is boloney!! Fred made eggs and toast. pain killer isn't cutting it. liv is working the annual party for Ceilia, big tip lady, it will help on vet bills. told her I might just need a 'special' brownie from scotty's friend so i can get some relief from the agony. I don't condone those brownies but then i haven't been in this much ACUTE pain ever. I'm ready to gnaw off my hand at this point.

cool fix on the cookies dough janet, good for you. i rarely measure and baking is my bugaboo. olivia wants to make meringue mushrooms and a buche de noel for her dessert to take to x-mas eve party with her boss. i don't think i can do this with one arm. maybe a trunk style eggnog layer cake. ???

Janet - our deer blinds are ground level tents. Our stands are anywhere from 10 to 15 feet above ground...Wayne cannot use the ones you move up the tree bit by bit - that requires a much younger dude with a death wish. Mine is about 10 ft high, on 4 steel poles and tethered to the ground. He has the ones you lean up against the tree, climb up the ladder, secure the stand around the tree, climb down and finish it off....I am encouraging him to think of replacing them with something less tippy.

There are new ones built however high up you need, little buildings out of metal or wood. His buddy has been teasing me about wanting to build a permanent deer stand, with a garage for the Gator underneath -- ha ha. The description has reached extraordinary proportions as this fictional stand has acquired running water, cots, shelves to rest the rifles on, maybe recliners -- what a hoot! He has a good sense of humor. So funny.

We are used to hearing guns during deer season, it doesn't bother unless they are super close. Yesterday we rounded up the cards from the game cameras, and wore hunter orange even tho we were on our own land. Pays to be safe.

We are watching Alaska the Last Frontier. One of my favorite shows. Forty years ago I would have done it in a heartbeat. One of the people is making rose hip mead (rose hips, honey, water). I am impressed. Must Google recipes for that!

AC. decided to grace me with his presence. He is beside me in the recliner, awake but content to just lay there. This is unusual - he is usually on Wayne's lap. When we got back from church he was poised at the door and raced outside. I nabbed him by the neck and scooted him back inside ASAP. He was miffed. I guess this is his way of making up. LOL.
