Friday Feeling :)

  • chuckieb 11 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! Happy Friday! :)
Lori...how's Bryan feeling and how did dinner go last night? Did you get to eat the Napoleons? :)
Laurie, did your sister arrive safely?
Tina, sorry to hear you didn't make it to Painting Class but sounds like you had a superb meal at Beak's! :) How's Fred doing this morning? What did Angie end up choosing for your nails? :)
Dahlia, did you make your wings last night?
Laura, did you have a successful Costco run?
Glad you had a good trip to Sacramento Marie. You're pretty close really.
A shout out to Joce, Kimmer, and Michelle! What is on your agenda for today?
Heard from Benjamin again last night. He'd gone to the Night Market for his dinner and bought a local take on the Japanese Okonomiyaki. I've put a picture below.
Benjamin says he thinks it contained egg, mayo, bean sprouts, corn, wasabi and pineapple. I googled it :) and it sounds like it should have had some sort of spring onion pancake layer at the bottom. He says that Taiwan has the best, juiciest fruits ever. He'd bought a little cup of fresh strawberries and a girl at the hostel offered him a slice of some white fruit that he'd never tried before, which you are supposed to sprinkle with plum powder? He said it was incredible. I think it's amusing he is taking foodie pictures for me. GR has even rubbed off on my son! :)
Gonna have a leisurely Friday today and make a nice dinner. Am going to make
    Liezels Million Dollar Chicken Recipe
which I've made before and really enjoyed, and then I'm going to try Lori's
    Dirty Mashed Potatoes
for the first time! Need to think of a veg.
My Mom is driving herself to Fort Frances this morning as she has to go for an ultrasound to see about what's been ailing her. It's an hours drive there and an hour back. She's nervous about it which in turn makes me nervous. I asked her if she was going to bring anyone along for the ride and she said "No, it's enough to endanger my own life, never mind someone else's". Eeeesh.
And we have some bad problem occurring with our water pump. Oh the joys of country living some days! :) We heard gurgling noises in the pipes all night long and then around 5 a.m. I couldn't handle it anymore so went downstairs and saw that the check valve? on the water pump was toggling between 40-60. Not good. Have to call our Pump guy first thing. (You know you live rurally when you have a 'pump guy') :)
Have a great day everybody! Search out that Friday feeling! :)

Wow you are so good addressing everyone first thing in the morning lol I read everyone's posts but once I start writing I forget who said what so I don't wind up addressing anyone (love you all and I am thinking of comments as I read them though)
I meant to comment on Lori's post that I was flattered that my peppers had reached birthday dinner status with Bryan.
My sister arrived safely although we had a harrowing ride to the airport. I hate driving in Boston and a near accident because of the stupid garmin telling me to go left when the airport signs where saying go right! I hate the tunnels because I, claustrophobic and there is a huge one to go through so I was already on edge. I wound up ripping the thing down and telling it to shut up. Then I had to fish it out for directions home :)
We went to Papa Gino's to fix my sisters pizza need (Corrine would understand).
Today we are just bopping around doing errands and going to lunch. Not sure what we are going to do for dinner .

Don't give me too much credit for addressing everyone first thing in the morning Laurie! :) Remember I don't have to rush around and get ready to head to work, so I can re-read through the prior day's post and refresh my memory what everyone will be up to. :) I too thought it was nice that Bryan had requested your peppers. :) Glad to hear your sister arrived safe and sound and that she got her pizza fix! :) Ugh on the tunnels and the garmin, but you did give me a giggle picturing you telling it to shut up. :)
Pump guy is going to pop over to take a look in about an hour. But he's got a big job this afternoon for a guy that's been without water for the last four days, so I don't know if he'll be able to get us up and running today or not.

Rachel thought it was funny to she told frank that she wanted to laugh but since I was shaking she resisted. Another driver was yelling at me so I responded to him "oh shut up and to the garmin you shut up too!"

    Good Morning!
    TGIF!!!!
UGH on the water pump, Janet!! Hope he can get you fixed today. Are you able to use your water right now? LOL at knowling you live in a rural area when you have a "pump guy"! :) Wonder what the fruit was that you sprinkle plum powder on? I love plums. The strawberries look yummy! And a very interesting looking dinner! lol I think it's awesome that he is taking foodie pix for you! That's adorable. Sounds like he's adjusting well so far and beginning to make friends. To be that young and have the whole world at your feet, and take advantage of the opportunity to make big dreams come true...kudos to him! :) I think you will love the Dirty Mashed Potatoes
I'm so glad you are trying them! I use the hand mixer because I don't have a masher, but, you can totally mash with one of those hand masher thingies if you prefer that texture. :) I think Bryan is feeling a little better this morning. 3 days off will be good for him. The nurse at Kimberly Clark told him it sounds like a pinched nerve in his shoulder.

Laurie, Bryan and I both love those peppers. I missed having them last night. We have put the steak dinner off til Sunday (because that's the only day we can do it! I hope the steaks will still be ok). LOL at the Garmin. I can see you telling it to shut up! We had just gotten ours when we went to Hilton Head. Now, that whole island is only 12 miles long (and less wide). It sent us 11 miles to the other side of the Island when we wanted to go to Harbortown to the Lighthouse. We couldn't find what we were looking for, so, we stopped at the Welcome Ctr, and the lday there was so confused...she was like "why did you come here if you are staying at the beach house?" Well...because the gps told us to! Turns out we were staying only a couple miles from where we needed to go...and all we needed to do was stay on the same road to get to the entrance of that plantation!! LOL
Have fun with your sister! I think I've heard Corinne mention that pizza place! :)

Supposedly no cooking for me today. We are supposed to go to Knoxville to shop for Kynda's birthday. Her party is at 12 tomorrow. Although I'm not 100% convinced that Papaw is gonna feel like doing that. We will have to see.

Hey to all not here yet! Have a great day!!

Morning Lori! The pump is fixed! Couldn't have a quicker turn around than that I'll tell ya! And no....we were completely without water for the last few hours. We have a well and it turned out that the check valve was defective so it wasn't allowing the water to pump into the house. The check valve was under warranty so no charge. He's a really nice guy. Super glad to hear Bryan is feeling a little better. He had me worried there! I'm positive the steaks will be fine by Sunday. Aged beef right? :) LOL @ your Garmin story. We don't have one. Hurray if you don't have to cook! And Hurray for Friday! :)
    It's pouring rain here. Weird.

Raining here, too, Janet! I am SOOO TIRED OF RAIN!!!! Seriously. Glad your water pump was fixed without any cost or hassle! That's excellent. Bryan's right arm is the one bothering him, so, I wasn't too worried it might be his heart. I got him a dr appt for next Wed. though. They were supposed to call after the first of the year and send him to the Neurosurgeon for his back, and haven't yet, so I called them. lol

Shows you how much I know about heart attack symptoms hey? LOL! That's excellent that your got Bryan a Dr.'s appointment Lori. Indeed you have to be proactive sometimes!
I have two questions to put out there.....
    1) I'm trying to find Ang's recipe for that Ramen salad with almonds and Asian flavourings? and I have not met with success, and
    2) I want to try this new recipe for Rock Cornish Game Hens in an Asian brine. Can I put the frozen hens in the brine? Does that count for marinating time or do they have to be thawed first?
Inquiring minds want to know? Tee Hee! :)

    Hello all.
Glad Bryan is feeling better. Lori, I'm glad you are getting him to a doctor for the checkup. We could use your rain. 80 degrees is not right for Jan.

Janet, I love Benjamin's big adventure shares. Too cool. Glad your pump woes were fixed swiftly. Angie did baby blue, pink and lavender with bows and polka dots and sparkles on my finger tips. She did Liv's in navy and white nautical theme with stripes and anchors and polka dots. Beaks was awesome. We booked a Painting class for late Jan. an afternoon class, cheaper and a nicer painting

Laurie, I'd be yelling at Garmin to shut up too. What a harrowing ride. Have a wonderful time with your sis!!

At Beak's we had fried artichoke hearts in a lemony cream sauce, soft salted pretzels with mustard, three sides of fresh spinach with garlic and lemon, a caprese grilled cheese, the egghole (fried egg in the toast with duck bacon!!!! cheddar cheese melting down the sides). lemon drop salmon. We shared a large plate of funnel fries with raspberry sauce and cinnamon whip cream.

Fixing up salads and snacks for work. Make it a great day!

Hi Tina! Thanks, but you guys tell me if I blab on about Benjamin too much though okay? I know sometimes I need to turn the dial back if I'm fixated on something. :) Your nails sound lovely as do Liv's. (Perfect for Sea Hags hey?) :). I have yet to try one of these artichoke heart things done by someone who knows what to do with them. Must put that on my list this year. Your meal sounded amazing. That dessert insanely good! :) Have a good shift at work!
    Okay....I did find Ang's recipe. It's called
    Cabbage Slaw
    not Ramen Salad. DUH! :)
Making up some spinach/ricotta cannelloni for my lunch as Jim took the last of the spareribs for his lunch.

You found the slaw!!! good. The hens won't pick up much flavor if frozen. allow some time to thaw. Gotta run!

Tina, your lunch yesterday sounds fantastic!!! I'd like some of all of it, please! And your nails sound adorable. That girl is soo very talented!! Have a good day at work!

Janet, I have to say that I personally start frozen meat in marinade or brine ALLLL the time. I really can't tell the difference. The meat doesn't stay frozen...so it picks up flavor as it thaws. I put it in marinade in the morning, leave it on the counter til I get home from work. If Bryan is off I have him put in the fridge when it's thawed. If not...it's fine. "They" may say leaving on the counter is a no-no...but...my mother did that my entire life, and I've done it my entire adult life...so...we're talking almost 49 years of eating meat thawed in this fashion...and I have never once been sick from it. :) If you have time to thaw it in the fridge, then, you could do that too. But, the short answer is yes, you can start it in the marinade while it's frozen. :)

I want to make Low Fat Tex Mex Eggrolls today for dinner along with some soba noodles or? for dinner...Laurie or anyone, would it be ok to make the coleslaw & green onion & corn & black bean mixture ahead of time and refridgerate until I roll the egg rolls later today???

Janet, sorry your having pump problems..there's always something, isn't there?

Lori, did my malware and it did not detect anything..am I good to go do you think??? or should I run the link you sent me as well? I hate being stupid with computer spam stuff..I appreciate your help with this..

Marie, Malware isn't the only thing that could affect your computer, so, I'd use the link, too. Unfortunately, with this kind of spamming bug, you can't always detect it even with a virus scanner...
So glad you posted that recipe...I thought I had bookmarked it long ago, but apparently not! My first thought would be that it would be ok to make ahead and put in the fridge, but I've never made these... :)

Oh Marie....soooo sorry. What a bad way to start your day! Waving my magic vibe wand in your direction! Ugh on the virus and a huge ugh on the bank's computer glitch. I'm sure they'll fix you all up though. Just a pain I'm sure. I bet your could make up that corn/black bean mixture no problem ahead of time and stick it in the fridge 'til you're ready to prepare them.
I did google brining frozen meats and they say, just as you do Lori, that you may need to leave them in a little longer that's all. The hens are frozen solid solid so they'd be fine sitting out all day especially in the winter time.

Lori, you really are a computer whiz. I hope you put that on your resume. "TECH SAVVY". :) I've got the Hens in the brine right now. We'll have them for tomorrow night's dinner. I'm not sure how I came across the recipe. Looks like something Tina might have directed me to? :) It's got star anise and big red hot peppers, ginger, garlic, kaffir lime leaves....and then you grill them once they've brined. It sounds amazing!

Hey Dahlia! Sorry to hear you're stomach is bothering you. Take care.
I was just outside to take out the garbage and go grab the mail. Stepped down onto the ground from the stairs and totally wiped out. Glare ice! Hit the back of my head but not hard. Must have put my left hand out to save myself as it's hurting. Reminds me of your wipe out on your wet deck recently Marie! :)

I have had a fun day out in the world. Started with a trip to the Windermere Farmer's market. Met with my tea lady and had some giggles with the locals. Two new teas home for a try. Then off to Cut and Color for a proper primp with a before cut stop at the Corona Cigar store for a Cuban coffee. Afters to the cleaners and liquor store before a stop at Cricketers for a Scotch Egg and a beer. While I was at Cricketers I lined up a proper Steak and Kidney Pie for lunch next Friday. My buddy Donn is going to join me.

Brian and I are having another cook-off. Tonight we will be having a Shrimp Throw-down. I think I'll do it simple with some shrimp boiled in Cajun Shrimp And Crab Boil Seasoning to enjoy on a nice dinner salad. No telling what Mr. SuchAFuss will concoct.

Sorry I just saw this, I am sure you can make it ahead of time. It would actually a be easier to work with I think but you may have to cook a few extra minutes since your starting with a cold filling.
Mary is always complaining that there is no grocery stores where she lives just Walmart so we made the rounds. Market basket, the mall, trader joes, and shows lol
I got. Nice punch bowl for the girls party at bed bath and beyond
