NO THREAD TUESDAY! :)

  • chuckieb 9 years ago
What the heck's going on guys? I didn't have a whole lot of news to impart first thing this morning and hadn't even begun to think of what was on this evening's dinner menu so I didn't start a thread. Figured FOR SURE someone would have by the time Jim and I ran our errands. And now here I am and NO THREAD! Goodness!
Had brekkie at McDonald's this morning. Then Jim had to touch base with his lawyer so I went along for the ride. Stopped into the Westboro area of Ottawa which is a Foodie Mecca. Such cool fun restaurants and a zillion bagel places, kitchen stores, etc. Stopped in at Ottawa Bagel Shop and got (of course) fresh bagels, some Hot Pepper Jelly for a Christmas gift and two new salts....Smoked Serrano Infused sea salt and Lime Infused sea salt. Grabbed a couple of groceries and now we're home. I've got my Book Chat at the Library this afternoon. Took out some salmon to thaw and bought some asparagus as a side. Not sure what I'll do with the salmon just yet but I'll go peek at some bookmarks and see what I can come up with.
Sens Game this evening. It's gotten pretty chilly out here. -10C/14F.Not as cold as your temps in Saskatchewan though Michelle! Your tuna melts sounded yummy. GOOD LUCK on your interview. Do let us know how it goes! An International Organization sounds intriguing!
    Wishing everyone a great Tuesday!

Good morning all. I was waiting for a thread because I didn't have any new pix to download - great minds. Salmon sounds wonderful, no matter how it is fixed.

La Fiera salad is a new one on me. I will have to Google it soonest.

So you have a psycho kitty also, Michelle? Our psycho kitty changed to a wacko kitty when A.C. was removed to one part of the house and she was given a place of refuge in the other. She was on probation but after a month or so she improved to wacko kitty status, and now after 6 months away from A.C. she even tries to play. We tie our tree to the mantle with fishing line -- many of our cats have developed a liking for climbing up to one of the middle branches and napping, after demolishing lower ornaments. This will save the tree from destruction and mayhem. This year it will be in the sun room where they are not allowed. Tell me about little psycho cat. It can’t be as bad as A.C.- sigh.

A.C. got out - it is COLD out there - and ran after Miss Kitty. I finally nabbed poor old Miss Kitty and put her inside in a carrier. After half an hour he showed up and I was able to go outside, walk over to him, and pick him up. NOT A VERY SMART CAT! Then Miss Kitty was released and he has been a rotten little pot ever since. He is meowing and roaming the house, but as long as we have an elderly cat outside he has to stay inside.

I have Slow Cooker Meatloaf started in the kitchen. I decided to make use of the slow cooker now that I have space to utilize it! Probably mashed potatoes or maybe rice and a veggie for supper.

Must stop procrastinating and attack the sun room floor. It is in need of cleaning and mopping so it will take a while. I want to get it ready for the tree which maybe we can find tomorrow. Maybe. Then I will con Wayne into bringing the Christmas ornaments out so I can do the sun room up properly. Have a good day.

    There...think I'll do this....
    Crispy Parmesan Crusted Salmon
Frankieanne had reviewed it and it sounds really yummy.
Hi Karen! If you like olives you are bound to LOVE
La Feria American Legion Secret Sauce
Tina introduced it to me a long time ago now. This is what she initially told me about it that got me hooked.

Tina says" I serve the La Feria American Legion Secret Sauce on chopped cold romaine, with big crunchy croutons and halved cherry tomatoes...been known to throw a handful of grated parmesan in the salad bowl too. I have used it for crudite, on cold steamed artichokes, over hot asparagus, as a sandwich spread on a foccacia bread or a ciabatta to soak up all the goodness, as a dip for cold shrimp, and an old favorite when I mixed it in a cold wild/brown rice salad with tiny leseur peas, chopped green onions, minced parsley/basil, capers, more green olives, hard cooked eggs, and chopped chicken. (sublime green chicken salad!) Served in a bibb lettuce cup and crunchy breadsticks wrapped with bacon and baked slow for a long time....A very successful catering dish from a long time ago made a whole lot easier with theLa Feria American Legion Secret Sauce ."

Michelle's Psycho kitty did make me think of A.C. straight away! :) Meatloaf sounds like a good meal for a cold day. Will you just cut a tree from your property?

    Hey all,
Thinking meatloaf, roasted potatoes and broccoli for dinner.
The meeting last night put a fear into us. Apparently the gas line company already put stakes out in the conservation land behind my house. I just took joy for a walk back there only found one stake but a few white ribbons indicating where stakes where (I think someone ripped out stakes) I was wrong about where the gas line is originating apparently the one from Canada is a different one. This one is coming from Tennessee. We have to fight this. It's right near our water supply, not to mention an active quarry that still blasts once a week and shakes the whole neighborhood.

Hello everyone:) Been a busy day for me..shopping...errands... etc..I did get it all done before it started raining though...

Janet, your bough is so pretty! Do you have your tree up yet? Hard to believe Christmas is just around the corner:)

Karen, you have got to try La Feria Sauce..It's absolutely delish!
Good luck on tackling the sun room today:)

Dinner will be baked bass (more of Rick's catch) it's thawing and some roasted red potato wedges with cole slaw.

    Feel better Tina:( xoxox

Laurie, good luck on fighting the new gas line! That's not good at all:(

Well, not much new here! Talk soon:)

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well Tina. Sending good vibes your way.
That is so upsetting Laurie re: the Gasline. Fight a good fight.
Hi Marie! No, I didn't put the tree up yet. It just doesn't feel Christmassy out there yet as we really have no snow on the ground. I know that if I just wait a week or so it will be "Winter Wonderland" time and that just makes it seem more 'merry'. :) I'd seriously have a hard time decorating for Christmas if we never got snow at all! It would boggle my mind. :) Oh yum on baked bass. I'm in! Those wedges sound nummy too.

Didn't really feel in the mood to go to the Book Chat today but I did and I was glad I went. :) It's always so fun to get different perspectives on a book. It's surprising how different we all think. :)

    Hope you feel better, Tina.
Keep up the gas line fight, Laurie. That is definitely not the best area for one.
Great minds run in the same channel - MEATLOAF!
Sun room is swept and mopped. We may have a leak. Wayne checked it and he thinks it may be. We had the eaves redone and it may have happened before that. We hope. Since they would back up and could cause the problem.
Going shopping tomorrow - probably in Springfield -- Barnes & Noble, Ross's, Tuesday Morning, and a few others depending on what all we are looking for. Maybe Bass Pro! I need an electric broom, not cord free, for the sun room - kitchen areas. Shark has one that Bed Bath and Beyond are pushing but I want to be sure it is QUIET when I run it so am not so sure about getting it unless they can assure me it doesn't take off sounding like a jet plane.
Dollar tree is definitely on the agenda (probably not until Thursday) because I need to get wrapping paper etc. A new store opened nearby - well, the old one moved to a much larger space - hope they have more selection. I always look for wrapping there because it is so much less, even than WalMart.
It is a dreary, cloudy day. Typical December blahs. A nice snow would improve it greatly.
Janet and Marie: Wayne HATES olives, so I will have to make a small salad for myself.
Leaving early in the morning so probably won't post until quite late. See you later.

Put on a pot of chili simply because Michelle did the other day and I started to crave it. LOL
Fred put up the tree, I have to fix the holes in the branches and then we will decorate.
We are doing this for US this year. Not to please Olivia or force cheer on the scrooge of years past, she is so busy out doing a beach bar crawl, she wouldn't appreciate any Holiday spirit at home. Molly is still eyeing the tree suspiciously.

Oh no, on the no snow or Holiday Cheer. Janet, I know you will be decorating more soon. Glad you rallied for the book chat and it was good. Yes, it is enlightening to hear the interpretation of what the author meant.

Oh no, Laurie on the gas line. That is horrible. I know the homeowners will be rallying for the safety of your conservation lands. If you can change Market Basket, you can change anything.

Karen, if you like green olives I think you will like the La Feria sauce and it is so easy.

Marie, hello busy lady. I'm trying to power through the soreness. I so admire your working as much as you do.

Michelle B. I didn't want to jinx your job interview this morning. I hope it went well. As long as it makes life better, go for it. I'm sure you have snow to spare for the rest of the Americas.

Have to go stir the pot, so to speak. Hugs all.

Sorry to hear you're feeling poorly Tina, you're in my thoughts.
My interview just ended and now I am hyper and can't really settle to doing much of anything yet. I think it went well but won't know for awhile - they said middle of next week but their timelines have been stretched way out for the whole recruitment process so I will try not to stress if I don't hear for two or three weeks.
Our psycho kitty is named Milo and he is a humane society adoption. When we got him he was quiet and docile and cuddled all the time - then he got with healthy with love and good food and has been a holy terror ever since. Milo's best friend is our big dog Bentley, a golden retriever with enough energy for three dogs. They chase through the house and then when Bentley quits to lie down, Milo dive bombs him from the furniture. Several times a day I have to say "Bentley, stop chewing the cat, Bentley get the cat's head out of your mouth" and then "Milo, quit attacking the dog, Milo let go of the dog's face" so it is entertaining at least. Milo is hunting this afternoon - he got a mouse last night in the kitchen and there must be another behind the stove because he is fixated on that spot.
Tonight is dinner at Richard and Ellen's. They cook on Tuesdays and we cook on Thursdays so I don't know what the menu is going to be today. Whatever it is, it will be good - that is never in question.
Janet, we have lots of snow and you're right, it is feeling very Christmas-y. My tree is going to be in a triangular area behind the couch with the front window and the wall making the other two sides. Hopefully then Bentley can't get at it to knock it over and when Milo climbs it, the wall, window or couch will prevent it from toppling right over. I have decided it will be lights only this year because I give anything I hang on the tree a lifespan of a couple of hours at most before becoming a pet toy or doggie snack.
Hope everyone has a good evening,
    Michelle B.

Ugh on the leak Karen. That's a pain! I envy you your Barnes n' Noble shop. I actually have a $50 Gift card for Barnes n' Noble but they're only in the States and I'm NEVER in the States! :) What kind of store is Tuesday Morning? Have a great time tomorrow!
That's nice you're getting the tree up Tina. SO CRAVING LA FERIA SAUCE! OMG!
I bet you did simply GREAT Michelle. I can totally identify with your nerves though. :) One of my very first boyfriends in Public School was named Milo. Always liked the name. :) Wasn't there some show with cats and dogs in it? Milo and Otis or something? I'm guessing Richard and Ellen are friends? What a fun idea to swap cooking duties. Love it.
Jim says he's extra hungry and would like potatoes as well as the salmon and asparagus. I'm trying to remember what goes in to making smashed potatoes.
A mosquito keeps dive bombing my cheek. HOW ANNOYING!

Meatloaf was so good, I was really craving a burger but that hit the spot. Interesting thing I found in the conservation land. Someone has mounted a camera to a tree. There is a facebook page called wildlife of wilmington and he posts videos of the animals and had posted a picture of his camera so I knew what it was. I sent him a picture and asked if it was his but he said no. Strange to be on public land especially since it's where the teenagers hang out and drink. Lol he said it isn't is but they have my picture now (I took a picture of it)
