To Town on Thursday!

  • chuckieb 1 year ago
    Good Morning Everyone!
I have a nice day ahead of me. Benjamin and I are going to head into town and finish (hopefully) our Christmas shopping and go out for lunch at a new Thai restaurant that has recently opened. Going to buy some Indian food at the Indian Grocery to bring home for our dinner. A nice easy paced fun filled day.
However....having some troubles this morning as WE'RE OUT OF COFFEE!!!!!!!! Argh! Benj thought we had one more bag and we didn't. Will make a cup of tea instead but it's just not going to cut it! :)
I'm disappointed I missed that Concert for the Hurricane Sandy Telethon Tina. I didn't realize it was on. Sorry about Fred. Hope you get some fix from the Dr. today. Sorry about Liv too.
    Have a great Day everyone!

Good Morning, Janet! Enjoy your day with Benj, sounds like a nice one. UGH on the coffee!

Oh Tina! Call that Dr today. For sure. I can so relate...they put 2nd hubby on an anti-depressant that made him so MEAN! And he would sleep all day and roam all nite. I went to the psychiatrist (or psychologist...whichever one prescribes meds) with him myself and said he has to come off of this NOW. They should change it. They want him to have a better quality of life than that. Hugs girlfriend.

Did not get good news on Mom's tests. Dad called (which says she was so upset she didn't want to talk to us kids). It's worse. So, they are going off the pill, and changing to an aggressive I.V. chemo. Not sure of the exact details, but, it will be 2 different kinds, and will rotate every 2 weeks. (not sure when they start, either) She will need a port because the chemo blew all her veins out last time around. Took them 45 min to get an I. V. started for her tests the other day. She asked the dr what would happen if she didn't take treatment, and, he told her that he thought she would be in pretty rough shape within 3 mos if she opted out of treatment. *sigh* I am so not ready for what we are about to go through. And I can't imagine what she will go through, and being able to stand by and watch and do nothing. I just cannot grasp a concept of that. Even though I know what to expect and have seen others...I just can't even picture it in my mind. Unfathomable.

Anyway. Sorry to start us off on a down note. I'm glad she has this week off.

Oh Lori! I'm so sorry. Big,big hugs. I soooooo feel for you. Having been through this with my Dad I totally know that helpless feeling. She's going to fight as hard as she can and you just have to be there to give her your wonderful smile and a hug. Don't apologize for being down. We're here for you. More hugs.

LOL Janet, The pic and caption is hilarious! I don't know where you find such good things to cheer us up in the morning but thanks. Gee I don't know what I would do if I was out of coffee but I think I would head out pretty quick to get some though. Have a great day and good luck shopping.

Tina, I hope you can get some help to settle Fred down today too! Wishing you a much milder day on the emotional front.

Dahlia, Wow sounds like you had a wonderful time in Miami except for your tummy problems of course. Your avatar looks delicious and those crab cakes sound like they were to die for.

Corrine, I hope you are feeling better today and please keep us posted as to how you are doing. Get well soon dear.

Lori, Oh dear God love you keep strong. That is a lot to deal with at the moment or any moment for that matter. As Janet says it is a helpless feeling I know only too well with my Mom too. Sending prayers and good wishes all around. Your Mom is one amazing courageous woman. Hugs and a big group hug too.

I will be heading out to mail some parcels, pick up dry cleaning, grocery shopping and swinging by M&M (a Canadian frozen food franchise) to pick up some extra appy's and things to have on hand just in case I need them in a hurry. Then stopping by the drugstore and Foodsmiths hopefully that is it for today. Hopefully after that I can finish cleaning off the dinning room table and get it all decorated and ready. Not a clue for dinner yet but no doubt I will figure something out as I go.

    THanks girls.

BTW, those of you on FB, please don't mention it there. My parents freak if they think it's mentioned there, even to ask for prayers. And my sister the princess aka facebook police sees it before I do and sends nasty messages to me that I better remove it before someone calls mom and tells her about it. *rolling eyes*

Between Pinterest and Facebook Joce I see a lot of pretty amusing things! :) You have a busy day ahead of you. I was just talking to a girlfriend about M&M. It's her son's birthday today and she wants to go out and buy him a cake. I heard that M&M sells something called "Tall Cakes" that are good and cute too. Have you ever had one? I haven't been to M&M in a long time. Yum on having extra appy's on hand! :)
I always use the private message feature on FB if I'm talking about anything personal Lori. It freaks me out a bit what people do sometimes post on their 'wall'. For eg. my BIL posted on his wall yesterday that he had come home to find his son smoking pot. And then he goes on to ask people what he should do? Shaking head.

Dahlia, it does sound like you had an awesome trip! How cool on the VIP Box! (Janet, Miami Heat is the NBA team - professional basketball). I bet that was a blast. lol on the sea gull. That would freak me out. Sorry you had some tummy troubles while you were there.

Have a good day Joce. You just made me want M & Ms. LOL Oh, who am I kidding? I always want M & Ms. : )

Oh my goodness, Janet! I can't imagine posting that!! What's funny (well, not really) is when you see couples, yes, sometimes GROWN couples, fighting on their fb walls and saying things about eachother. Bryan has a friend who is a coach at the high school, that does that ALLLL the time! What an example for the kids! It's actually so childish sometimes that it's downright comical - and sad at the same time.

Just now took the time to look at the pic...now THAT'S funny!

Not to worry Lori, I am not on FB at all. But I do understand why your parents feel that way though.

Janet, The Too Tall cakes are fine not to die for though but they maybe just me. I think the only one I have ever bought of the Too Tall cakes was strawberry. If he likes chocolate you can't go wrong with their Chocolate Truffle cake or another one I can't find on this site it is a Chocolate Mousse cake which is as light as a feather and not too overly sweet. I usually buy that one if I am invited out to dinner last minute sort of thing always a handy thing to know.
Here is the site I think for desserts.

Good morning everyone. Janet, did anyone suggest that the dad who came home and found his son smoking pot should have sat down with him and tell him not to Bogart that J ? Maybe that was just my first thought. >,>

I'm feeling like I almost have my nest back in its proper order. Yesterday I did the marathon Christmas Elf thing and got almost all the wrapping completed and excess boxes removed from my Project Room. It is once again a room that you can stand up and move around in. That makes me sooooo happy. And having all the wrapped presents standing up around the walls. I may get festive enough to put up a few decorations here.

This morning bright and early the Terminix guy was here to exterminate the MOUSE-!%@#stard. As he is pulling out the washer repair guy showed up. All done and gone. I still have to clean out the bottom of the washer but I have until 2p to get that finished. Sean will be here around 3p to put the dryer back on the washer then I can reassemble my laundry room. Here is to hoping the mouse never comes back. The repair guy recommended I lay down decon in the bottom of the washer when I'm done cleaning . I thought that was an excellent idea.

But just now I'm finishing this mornings frittata while I catch up with my friends here. I discovered this week that Dad loves my fritattas so I will be able to share with him now. Found him short cutting breakfast so this will work out well for both of us. Its not like I wasn't going to be making them anyway.

Next up is to discover a favorite recipe for Navy bean soup. I have that big ham-bone that needs to turn into soup. I'm very open to your suggestions for the recipe.

Ohhhhh....Miami Heat is Basketball. Thx Lori. LOL! Cannot believe grown people who say nasty things about their significant other publicly. That's embarrassing! Wow!
Thanks for the link to the M&M Desserts Joce. I suspect my girlfriend won't end up going there as she works downtown in the Market area and there are so many other awesome places she could pick up a cake!
    Morning Marie!

    Not So Senatorial Bean Soup
throw in the ham bone and skip the sausage...it is a delicious soup.

Hello all, the concert was fabulous. i want the soundtrack.

Called the doctor about Fred. Left a message.

More cookies to be baked today. Going to Michael's to pick up some copper decor for the mantle. I'm doing copper and avocado green. Rustic. Saw a cute old wooden ladder done up as a Christmas tree with grapevines, twinkly lights, birds' nests and stars. Doing just a little bit of decorating to be more festive.

I think we can say that Scotty finally got the message that Liv is not ready to marry him and start birthin babies. He is 27, she is 21. He wants to settle down, she wants to travel and see the world.

Lori, I'm sorry that your family didn't get better news. It is so hard to feel helpless.. Cancer is hideous and horrible, Many hugs, dear friend.

Nice day you have planned Janet. I love Thai as you well know. Have fun shopping, Cute picture.
Hi, Marie. Your peanut butter cookies look just like the ones my grammy used to make.
Laura, that picture of the mouse on FB freaked me out. I do hope you do not have any more trouble in that area. Nice that you have a buddy to share the frittata.
Joce, you have a busy day planned as well. Phew, I'm too tired to try all that in one day.
Lori...again, hugs to you. All set on party plans?

I haven't a clue about supper....might just make the Kaching spaghetti bake to please the ever so unpleasant Fred.

Oh, by the way, i found Fred this a.m. with a mouth full of eggnog cookies, his cheeks were puffed out like a squirrel hoarding nuts. So much for saving some for later......he got the last laugh.

Fred has gone on a scavenger hunt....trying to find the owner of the Kitchen Aide..he is trying every combination of the address and knocking on doors to see if he can find the purchaser. Our UPS guy is usually right on the money, but this is the season for temporary help and we think he just delivered to the wrong address. Gets Mr Grumpy out of my hair and he gets exercise that is needed,

Tina, hope all goes well with Fred...Had to smile picturing him with a mouth full of cookies:)

Laura, did you ever think about keeping the little mouse as a pet? That might be an idea, then you wouldn't have to hire an exterminator :) Believe it or not, I probably would be hauling the little guy down to our Vet's for a rabies vac just so we could keep him..Mickey would be his name:D Hope this at least made you smile..tee hee xoxox

Joce, I thought you were going to swing by and pickup some M&M's...I love M&M's:D Busy day ahead for you..our tree is up, I'm afraid that will be the extent of my decorating for Christmas..FSW says Bah Humbug this year..just can't get into the spirit...I think I know why, but I won't mention his family who makes me crazy with tons of screaming kids and hectic craziness..don't think we will be making it to their all day Christmas celebration on Christmas day...just cannot do that this year..am I a bad person? :(

Janet, that pic spoke volumes as to how I feel about the proper way to eat a Kit Kat!!!!!
    Have a fun day shopping!!

Corinne, how are you doing today? Keep us posted! XOXOX

Lori, do you like plain (my favorite) or peanut M&M's?? I can see it now, I'll have to make an M&M's run:)

Hi Dahlia, wow, hangin with the rich and famous! Sounds like you have a ball!!

Dinner will be some sort of pasta one pan type of meal:)

Hi everyone! Wanted to pop in for a sec and say hi. I'll be back in a few. I have Joce's Pecan Puffs in the oven right now and they are smelling great! Next up I'm making Cherry Bonbons. I am doing a Chanukah themed dinner this evening: Hannukah Beef Tenderloin, potato latkes and sufganiyot (jelly filled doughnuts, a Sefardic Jewish traditional Chanukah dish) shortcut way with canned biscuit dough and I'm thinking of filling with lingonberry preserves, but might do raspberry.. Will make a salad, too, to try to offset all the fried foods. But fried foods are traditional for Chanukah b/c of the oil as the miracle of Chanukah was that a small amount of oil lasted for 8 days so the Jewish high priest could light the menorah in the Holy Temple. Back in a bit!

Fred found the owner of the Kitchen Aide.....two streets over from us. The husband was thrilled to have his wife's Christmas gift. All is good in the neighborhood.

Lovely menu, Dahlia. Marie, we are on the same wave length, I'm doing a version of American Chop Suey. Fred will be happy.

Not happy with the mantle yet. Not enough lights.
Second batch of cheater's biscotti in the oven. First batch was double chocolate with heath bits. This batch is lemon with cranberry and almonds. I wish I could take pictures.

    Hey all
Just popping in busy day off! :)
tonights dinner is seafood stirfry with scallops and shrimp. the steak stirfry on Monday was a huge success and my non veggie eating 12 year old loved it? I may be pushing my luck with twice in one week but I need to eat somewhat lighter because I have my monthly weigh in at weight watchers next week and it ain''t pretty lol

I made the anisette cookies with the spinkles on top. I am sure they have some sort of italian name but I think those will freeze well. Put aside a tin for my neighbor (they are her favorite) and some for work. although I just brought in muffins last week so maybe they will go to Frank's work.
Rachel has basketball practice tonight at 8:15 pm what a PIA its too late and too cold to go out at that time!
Tina that is awesome that Fred found the Kitchen Aid's rightful owner :)

Argh!!! I have to figure out an alternate plan for dinner.. I met my girlfriend Ashley at Trader Joe's and we both shopped and I just realized I accidentally put one of my bags into her car. It was full of produce including salad veggies, potatoes for latkes and the green onions for the tenderloin along with the sour cream and apple sauce that go with the latkes. I'm SOOOOO annoyed with myself. She lives about 25-30 min drive from my place. Probably will just get the stuff tomorrow.

Glad Fred found the owner of the Kitchen Aid! Good job Fred! So, you're feeling a bit bah humbugish as well? I'm fine if it's just me, Rick and of course our cats..too many people, too much noise is just not my style...I must be getting old. Your American Chop Suey sounds perfect! We were going to a new fish market in Chico and pick up some crab,or maybe lobster for Christmas.. I don't have any idea how expensive the new fish market is... so we'll see!!!

Hi Laurie! Your dinner sounds very nice!

    Hi Dahlia:)

I was shopping earlier and I found someone's registration & sticker in a parking lot....it was wet from the rain couldn't make the name out so we went to DMV and it WASN'T busy at all I walked up to the DMV clerk and said i want to drop this off so you can contact the person who lost it..she said I had to wait in line (rudely) I said I just need to hand this to you..she grabbed it from my hand and snarled at me!!! I told her,"Your welcome and I thought this was a nice thing I was doing"..no reply..I just walked out ... I hate to be treated that way..So, I e-mailed a complaint to DMV.
She should be very thankful to have a job...I help pay her wages so she should wake-up and be frickin grateful:D Actually FSW would have grabbed her by the neck and pulled her over the counter and shoved the regs & sticker down her throat...uh oh..FSW is back.....

How is everyone else doing today, I hope well!! Anyone heard from Corinne??

What a nasty encounter for you, Marie. Honestly, how much effort would it have taken for her to be pleasant? LOVE FSW!!! Fred is so proud of himself for walking so far to locate the owner. Actually, the house number two streets over got a delivery meant for us a few years ago and they tracked us down. Karma!!

Yep, our whole house is a bit Bah Humbug...we are just too tired to get in the spirit.

Dahlia, so sorry you missed your bag of groceries. What a bummer.

Yes! Karma! I'm a true believer! That's why I returned the regs & tag, i would hope someone would do the same for me...but on the other hand, i wouldn't lose my regs & tags...just sayin!!! For what you have to pay every year, i guard those with my life..lol I was always taught to treat others as you wish to be treated..how miserable is that woman to be so nasty...GRIN :)
BTW, do you have your chop suey recipe posted????????????

Dahlia, that's too bad, at least you can pick them up later:)

Just your basic pound and a half of ground beef, crumbled and browned in a pan. Add one chopped onion, one chopped green pepper, season with garlic powder and onion powder, maybe a tsp each, a pinch of red pepper flakes, tiny bit of salt, a big can of diced tomatoes with juice~the 28 oz size, one can of tomato sauce~ the 16 oz size, equal amount of v-8, a pinch of sugar and cinnamon to mellow out the heavy tomato flavor, a dash of worchestershire for umami, simmer until it reduces a bit and thickens...cook the 1 lb box of elbow macaroni slightly less than the package says, drain well, shake it dry...add to the meat mix and let it cook a few minutes more to meld the beefy sauce to the noodles, taste, season with s & p if needed......add a big handful of shredded parmesan or cheddar cheese, whatever you have in the frig.
